ERO fountain pens

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

the Ero might be made by a German company called Matador, located in Wuppertal. I think the company existed from 1895 – 1960.

There isn't a lot information I can find on the net.

Hope that helps??

There's a useful link in this thread. You need to be able to read German to really grasp the page down the link, which is better for some than others. The name was apparently a contraction of Ernst Rodenhäuser, which means I've got a pen very slightly named after me. A search on Google for Firma Rodenhäuser turns up plenty of links, also in German, which leads to certain frustration for us monoglot anglophones.

Oh, good heavens. He's got a blog now, too.

Hello Ernst

Sorry, I hoped the google franslator did the job. Tell me if you need a similar translated version of the "muelthal" website.

I recently picked up an ERO, and found this old thread. It does really resemble a Pelikan 400NN, nice 14K nib.

I picked up an apparently new Ero on a trip to Slovakia in 2002. The shape is very similar to yours but it doesn't have Ero on the clip, only on the band around the cap. It has a red marbled barrel. I remember at the time it cost the equivalent of $2.00 US. The piston seems very similar to my Pelikan M200 but the Ero is larger. It seems to write very nicely.

Just found out that Pelikan nibs won't fit in my ERO fountain pen...but my Reform 1745 nib will! Looks really small, but considering the fact that I sometimes find the Reform slightly on the slim side...

I have THREE ERO pens, one red, one green, one blue, that I bought in MOntreal in the eighties, I'd guess. They have "West Germany" etched in the cap.

((((Kaweco wrote Reform sold very well in the world as a top quality pen. Before and after the war. In 1956 rather than compromise his convictions and make a lesser pen the owner of Reform shut down. The name was sold in 1958. Ero was bought up by the same company, and production of the Reform was moved there.

So Ero was making pens before hand.

The Reforms we know the 1745, P-120 and P-125 must be lesser pens than the pre'56 pen.

It was such a good pen that importers ordering them right after the war paid in advance on ordering...which is not at all usual.

Tropen is another pen more famous outside of Germany than in it.

Matador was it's own company, making the Matador '30's model 'Click'. Quite an old company making pens since 1910 and a self filler in 1915. )))

I have a no name black and gold cracked ice, that I think is an Ero....sigh  ...no name. It looks like the many I've seen shown from some here. M400 size with a small dome on top of the cap similar to the later 790 Geha. I also have three 'Clipper' pens that are from the same company.

It did not have an Ero nib on it but a Rupp maxi-semi-flex/'flexi' nib. :notworthy1:

It's one of those pens that looks good from a yard away...cheaper up close. It's got that '30's wrap around Binde.

But it is my only black and gold cracked ice.I expect to re-cork it next month. It is older than it's sisters the Clippers in it is cork and they are modern plastic gasket. I put it at about '53-56 because it copies the and the Lamy 27e & 99e a lot but is still using cork. There is resemblance with the later Geha 790 also.

I have three pens called 'Clipper' that were made by the same company, the dome of the pen is the same, as is the inside of the clip. The 'Clipper' has a 14 K nib with a small Super Constellation/Clipper on it instead of any name.

With out the radome's it was one of the sleekest planes ever made. This is model the first AWAC's is called EC-121. Was Ike's Air Force 1 also in the passenger model.

The 'Clipper' pen. I am quite satisfied with these 'clipper' pens and teh semi-flex nibs.

The Wearever box has nothing to do with these pens; other than to ship with.

I believe they were Ero pens... The company was bigger than I expected it to be. All pen companies made pens for other's, like Osmia made pens for Ackerman stores of Holland, or sold parts to other companies.

If they are not Ero, I don't care, I like them any way.

Paul LeMay...I like your pen.

I just saw this thread. Does anyone know where I can get a nib for ERO pen? Looked like someone had a box of nibs for sale couple of years ago.

Thanks.

I'm reviving this thread in hopes of tracking down a nib/feed unit as shown above; a client has just presented a pen which uses that sort of unit with one missing tip, and we're jointly wondering whether we can find a replacement and how much it might cost.

Here a photo of my ERO pen. It was my school pen, about 40 years ago. Now is part of my collection.

Good piston action, competent steel XF nib, nice color.

Hi

Yes, the ERO pen was German. I had 2 or 3 of them when I was in school in the 50's. It was a good pen with a very smooth nib in gold or plated in gold (don't remember), medium or fine nib and with a good 'tank' for ink. I used, at the time, the Parker Quink permanent blue ink or washable blue ink later, both with solv-x. :)

Hi, I just scan the box of the ERO Nib, anybody interested? I will sell it US $1,5 each.

Just YM me. My mailbox is cluttered with Spam, I might delete your mail along the spam.

I dont have a credit card, therefore, no paypal. Anybody interested, I will have to ask one of my friend or cousin here to accept the payment. I'll ask around for shipment cost. We have Fedex, TNT and some other but they will be expensive. Post office is not too reliable.

I'll prefer buyer from Indonesia, it will simplify a lot.

I am trying to insert the photo- still trying. Just YM me and i'll send the photo

what is your email / phone, im from Indonesia, currently looking for this particular nibs because recently i bought some ERO piston filler with broken feed and nib, i wish i could DM you / find you elsewhere (like in bukalapak/tokped etc)

eBay

You may want to check on eBay.de or eBay.at, look for "ERO kolbenfüller" or "ERO füllfederhalter", when you see one, add it to your wish list with your normal username/password, then go back to eBay on your language and re-check: it should have been added and the standard content translated. This is essential for many German sellers do not send pens outside Germany, and you will be able to see if that is the case in the corresponding section (just below the "Add to wish list" there is a section where eBay tell you postage costs and whether it ships locally, regionally or worldwide). If it ships to your place, you are done. If not, then remove it from your wish list and start over again.

If you are to be ephemeral, leave a good scent.

I have a 1970s black ERO cartridge filler that was given to me. It's nothing special and looks similar to a GeHa or a Pelikano Model 4 of the same era. I certainly wouldn't pay the big bucks for an ERO pen of that era. By the 1970s, ERO was an also-ran brand.

Most EROs I've seen date from the 40s-50s, maybe 60's and they are often worth their price tag, which is not outrageously expensive either, and often quite affordable.

If you are to be ephemeral, leave a good scent.

Cappuccino should work. Frothy milk also helps to lubricate the nib. But it has to be made by a barista.

No replies required to my complaints about the Pelikan. A friend came to the rescue with some very magnification equipment - with the images thrown to a latge high res screen. Technology is a wonderful thing. Thanks to Mercian for the reply. I had been using the same paper & ink for sometime when the "singing" started. I have a theory but no proof that nibs get damaged when capping the pen. 👍
    • Mercian 22 Oct 22:28
@FineFinerFinest: sometimes nib-'singing' can be lessened - or even cured - by changing the ink that one is putting through the pen, or the paper that one is using. N.b. *sometimes*. Good luck

I'm not expecting any replies to my question about the singing Pelikan nib. It seems, from reading the background, that I am not alone. It's a nice pen. It's such a pity Pelikan can't make decent nibs. I have occasionally met users who tell me how wonderful their Pelikan nib is. I've spent enough money to know that not everyone has this experience. I've worked on nibs occasionally over forty years with great success. This one has me beaten. I won't be buying any more Pelikan pens. 👎

I have several Parker Roller Ball & Fiber Tip refills in the original packaging. Where and how do I sell them? The couple that I've opened the ink still flowed when put to paper. Also if a pen would take the foller ball refill then it should take the fiber tip as well? Anyway it's been awhile and I'm want to take my message collection beyond the few pieces that I have... Meaning I don't have a Parker these refills will fit in 🙄

Hi, I'm new to this forum and was wondering where is the best place to sell a Montblanc ballpoint pen? Are ballpoints allowed here? It's a beautiful pen that deserves a great listing. Thanks.

I havent logged in here for a while. I have moved and when I try to change my location on my profile, when I go to save it, it sais 'page not found' and that I do not have authority to change that.
