Is It Safe For Fountain Pens?

I got some old ink....new, unopened, still in the blister pack....and am just checking to see if it's definitely ok for fountain pens.

 

It's two smaller size bottles of Sheaffer Skrip, one lavender, one grey: it says "for the calligrapher" on the front, and at the bottom, developed for use in all fountain pens" so it should be ok, but I thought I'd ask just to make sure.

f it says developed for use in all fountain pens, it's fountain pen safe. The for calligraphers part is probably in reference to the color which at the time would not normally be used for everyday writing or correction.

 

The part of "Calligraphy ink", India ink, or something made for dip pens that kills fountain pens is the thickening part or gum arabic that will clog up the feed on a fountain pen. But if Sheaffer said "developed for use in all fountain pens", it's safe. (Just like how R&K makes fountain pen friendly iron gall ink, which isn't usually friendly particularly to modern day pens).

Thank you, KBeezie....I wanted to err on the side of caution, even if it seemed like an obvious thing. They are very cute little bottles, aside from being good colours.

I bought the same ink a couple of months ago. It's safe...been using it since it arrived. Get your pliers out. The caps were tough to get off the bottle.

Thanks....both for the reassurance, and the heads up about getting them open. I often use a pair of rubber gloves to open jars, etc. a giant jar of pickles has so far eluded being eaten,however....just too stubborn. My husband was my "jar opener", and "reacher upper" to lift down things from wall cupboards in the kitchen( I am little, in height, though not girth)

 

Alas, I was widowed a few months ago. I miss him so much, in so many ways.....

Big hugs. Long story short....I understand.

 

I had my neighbor get the lids off. I just could not get them to budge. He laid a rubber jar opener thingy on the lid and then used the pilers on top if it to get a good grip. Hopefully yours will just pop off.

 

The lavender ink is very pretty. You'll enjoy it.

In principle the ink is fine. Just give it a quick check to make sure there are no signs of fungus floating around in the ink. With unopened Skrip that would be unlikely, but it's good to check with old ink.

If you're talking about the 12 ml bottles then they are fine for FP. In fact, FP are what the inks were made for.
