OMG...the gold is superb!!!!

I have been attempting dip pen Spencerian for a few months now and while I was quite good at Chancery Italic when I was younger, I am finding the pointed nib especially difficult to handle. I did sign up for a Spencerian class at the up coming San Francisco Pen show. I am hopeful that my mistakes can be determined and I can find vast improvement.

FWIW ... I have noticed that I've spelled "you're" wrong above ... One thing about reverting back to fountain pens - one's spelling improves as well as one's penmanship. LOL (Forgive the typing in this "Handwritten messages only" thread.

Thanks, and I really am jealous of your SF Pen Show opportunity :)

Apologies for not complying with "handwritten posts only" rule.

Computers completely destroyed my handwriting. I was appalled when I tried to write something.

I actually received two As in college because of my handwriting. (Summer school. AC not common. My midterm exams were the only readable ones and the teachers just slapped an A on them and stopped reading the rest. Their finals were their grades.

Same with work. All computers. Retired and started working on my handwriting. Any writing is good. Someone once said that every artist has a thousand bad paintings inside him. He just has to paint them out of his system and then he's ready to rock and roll. Same with writing. Get the bad writing out and you'll see improvement after each session. This forum is encouraging to me

I hear you on the computer being the culprit of declining penmanship. that is how I found the FPN. Decided to get my writing back up to par before it was too late.

My previous sample was made mostly with italic nibs, my prefer size of nib. same as others, computers came to make us forget about writing in a form that was pleasant to the eyes. My father was an accountant and he told me to draw the letters. Those exercises at a young age were great for me. He was in a profession where his writing had to be both precise and legible.

Here is my true writing sample, nothing to brag about, but legible. I don't want to emulate past ways of writing, just make it pleasant, steady and legible as much as I can. I can still do better if I write slowly. http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i82/anangeli/PENS/WRITING%20SAMPLES/Handwritinghere_2414_zps6azfwxox.jpg
