Anybody Use Desk Blotters/desk Pads?

My desk, which has a writing surface of 44" wide and 22" deep currently has 1/4" smoked/gray glass on it. I keep some sheets of blotting paper (~A4) in drawer. Although that 14x20 blotter at Orangeart.com would work. (the knee hole on the desk is 18")

With that grid pattern on the blotter, it would seem to be hard to write on...visually.

I just got a desk blotter pad and I found this website for ordering large blotter sheets.

"Science fiction is an existential metaphor, that allows us to tell stories about the human condition. Isaac Asimov once said: 'Individual science fiction stories may seem as trivial as ever to the blinder critics and philosophers of today but the core of science fiction, its essence has become crucial to our salvation, if we are to be saved at all."

Years ago, I removed the blotter from the desk now occupied by my computer. This discussion inspired me to reach between the desk and the file cabinet (I didn't even have to get out of my chair) and there it was! Also two pristine sheets of blotter paper (19" x 24") in a plastic sleeve. My memory deceived me, recalling a blotter that was the typical pool-table green, but this is brown (similiar, but a wee bit pinker than the color of an ordinary paper bag) subtly embossed with 1/2" squares, as seen below. The blotter holder has triangular maroon leather padded corners with a Greek key(ish) design embossed in gold. The back is covered in felt, with manufacturer's label in the corner. Vintage is probably early 60s. I hope this helps in your search.

Clever design; the side pockets for stationery, I assume? That burgundy color sure is a popular choice for leather desk accessories.

I have a small traveling writing pad a bit like that, I got it on etsy years ago. It has a masonite back, folds up. Good for writing letters in cafes as it has those pockets for envelopes, stamps etc. It is sort of fragile and coming unglued in places though.

The writing surface is small, works pretty well for A5 paper sheets and small stationery. Easy to drop into a messenger bag.

But the size works. For now, A4 sized blotter sheets will have to suffice.

The only source of colored blotting paper I found was Dacasso. I have no connection to them, just only source I could find. You can find them online at the place named after a large jungle river basin in South America.

I get white blotter paper at the University Bookstore to use in my rocker blotter.

Hope this helps.

Thanks! Just ordered a package of green blotter paper today.

I'm glad someone was able to crack the code. Seems like only yesterday that every desk had a blotter, usually this green color. Then poof!

It's a wonderful writing surface. Glad I could be of some small help.

I just read in Michael Sull's book, American Cursive Handwriting to put a sheet of blotter paper under the sheet of paper I'm writing on to cushion it. I'm writing on a plywood writing slope and the hard surface makes writing feel very scratchy. I've tried using a sheet of paper, but it's not thick enough to act as a cushion. I'm looking forward to using the blotter paper.
