Meisterstuck 164 Classic Ballpoint Authenticity Concerns

I am new to the forum but have been doing an appreciable amount of research over the past few days on this forum and others.

I recently purchased this pen on eBay and after carefully examining and comparing to pictures online I have some concers that I was hoping the pro's on this forum could help confirm.

1. Shine light through barrel to confirm deep red glow. Result=PASS

2. Weight of pen is 22.4 grams. Many sites indicated that fakea would weigh significantly more. Result=PASS

3.Serial number on clip. Googled serial number to see if it was common for fakes but search returned no results.Result=PASS

4. Germany etched onto clip opposite serial number. Result=PASS

5. Snowflake centered on cap. Result=PASS I think.

6. Threads protrude from CAP. Result=PASS

7. Refill fits pen appropriately (assuming refill is legit) Result = PASS

8. Spring stays attached to lower barrel. Result = PASS

9. Clip not "bent" or welded during production. Button buldge is solid, not folded over. Result= PASS

10. Pix located under clip. Yes but, I believe its inverted compared to other pictures I have seen of lLettering pens. Also does not appeared centered on the clip as it does on certain images. Result = CONCERNED

11. Lettering around base rim reads MONTBLANC - MEISTERSTüCK - but the "dash" after MontBlanc is smaller (think dot ) than the dash after Meisterstuck.

Any thoughts if I've been taken or if it is a legitimate pen?

It was purchased from a seller in Germany and I would Luke to know if I should ask for a refund because it is a replica and not the real deal.

Many thanks!

Greg

This is an interesting observation. And you are right. It's unusual. However, not proof that the pen is fake. I would ask mb service.

This is definitely a authentic pen. On the one I have, the pix is similarly placed on the clip. If it is inverted they might have just made it different by accident depending on the generation. The pen's twist movement seems legit too.

Thank you all so much for the help! I will email customer service to confirm. Once I started reading about all of the fakes out there I began to get quite concerned.

Any idea how much shops who are authorized dealer of the pens would/should charge for looking at it. It would seem an awkward conversation to walk in and say "I didn't buy my pen here, but could you look at the one I did buy and tell me if it is authentic or not?" It would seem less odd if this was a service they performed for a nominal fee. I figured I would at least buy some refills from them for doing me the courtesy.

How have others approached this?

As far as I know the retailer will authenticate your pen without charging you for it, but I'm not positive. Just try being polite, and I don' t believe that they'll charge anything.

I doubt that it is possible to authenticate it without the pen going to Montblanc in Germany and so destructive testing. Sometimes you can say for certain a pen is a fake but it is nearly impossible to tell if it is authentic for sure.

Thanks jar, I got my terminology wrong. Now that you bring it up, I do recall reading that somewhere else on here.

I guess "authentic", as Meier's put it is what I am going for since this one appears to pass the picture test. I have read where many say the best way to spot a fake for sure is by a side by side comparison. Guess I will make the trek out to the nearest store which sells them to see for sure, I just hope they are knowledgable. I don't think we have a dedicated MB store where I live :(

In general, has anyone out there bought items from eBay seller fine-and-precious? he has 100% positive feedback and the number of sales but man does he sure have a lot of Mont Blanc pens for sale. I may consider adding to my collection if it turns out folks here haven't had bad experiences.
