Diamine Music Set - Ten Dreary Colors

Manufacturers since 1864, Diamine Inks relocated to this purpose built 'state of the art' factory in Liverpool in 1925, where they successfully carried on using the traditional methods and formulas for ink production. Over the years the company has changed hands and are now located close to the world famous Aintree Race Course

Diamine offers interesting ink gift sets. The idea is nice but I'm not interested in full lines of inks, rather in colors I enjoy. That's why I'm pleased to say Diamine will offer all of their inks also in 30 ml plastic bottles. A friend of mine send me the samples of Music Set inks.

SUMMARY

Diamine made good, well behaved inks. Only Beethoven seems to have some flow issues. The colors aren't joyful, that's sure. Nevertheless I like this set. Dear Diamine, please, remember we'll all waiting for MONSTER SET.

Ha. It is true, things are a bit grim. (Insert your own joke about classical music here.) I think Handel and Wagner are standouts, and I really like Chopin and Vivaldi. Your samples here really show how Handel shifts from violet to purple and back. I think I will go ink a pen with it.

Dark moody colors are my thing.. :wub: .. with the exception of the ghastly Beethoven Green and the Tchaikovsky Blue (this blue is nice, sheen is pretty..... but I am not so crazy about blues, unless they are dark)... I do enjoy the rest of the series....

 

My favorite is Wagner.. (duh!!!)... the rest I will take in any order... Beethoven is last.

They look better in writing than in swabs, but I still mostly find them dreary (and not at all in line with the composer's music). From swabs I would pick Chopin. From writing samples - Bach and Mozart. Handel - perhaps.

I like all of these colors. Very easy to live with -- I use them in both home and work. .

I don't use them all (at once) but think that they are a good set. On a personal note, I've more use for more of these colours than I have for the Floral/Flower set. I don't use reds or oranges so those colours from the 150th Anniversary range are not on the top of my rotation list either but of course they are available individually.

I did not buy the Music or the Flower set... (I did eventually acquire some of them once they were offered in refill size)... but I would CERTAINLY buy the Monster Set....

I think what you don't like about them, Vis, is that they are chalky in my opinion. I sent Cyber6 a sample to compare Bach with KWZI (IG Cherry). I agree with you, these aren't exciting.

 

Cyber6, does Oscar the Grouch count as a monster? Because he is a murky green.

Thank God for no Verdi. Although if they made the blandest ink ever, the name would fit ; )

I don't have any of these (although I do really like most of the Flower Collection inks, which was my last year's Christmas present). So my vote was based on the scans. I voted for Chopin, because I'm a sucker for nice looking blue-black inks. Tchaikowsky would have been my second choice.

Interesting that the bulk of the votes seem to be going to Wagner, which I personally find to be a hideous color....

Haven't tried Alt Goldgrün. Kinda learned my lesson with Diamine Kelly Green -- the reviews showed it with lovely shading. But when I tried it, the ink was so light it was nearly illegible.

I like greens that lean yellow (especially compared to the ones that lean teal-ish). But not to the point where they could be called "yellow leaning towards green...."

I really like Schubert. I don't see them as dreary, just muted. None of them hit my "gotta have" button.

I just received Handel today (Thank you Dav!) and I am so very pleased with it! It is subtle, muted, soft, gentle, lovely, and complex. I truly enjoy this ink. The mood is evocative of something sweet, serene and perhaps a bit sorrowful, but that is life sometimes, isn't it? I do think that Handel is very pretty and will be enjoying it for quite awhile. I especially love the way it looks on Tomoe River; it reveals a greater depth to the story of the ink (yes, inks and colors tell stories in my world! lol)

I inked up Handel when this and the other review reminded me of it. I'm with Tessy - it is a great ink. (You're welcome - I am glad it got there safe!) Really fitting for February, when I tend to have moody colors inked up. For some reason muted violets and grays really appeal now.

I have the set and love them all except for Beethoven which is "eww" in my opinion. I prefer PR Avacado (sic) and Sailor Jentle Epinard. I didn't like Wagner when I saw pics on this forum, but it's much nicer in person. I don't think the colours match the style of music of their namesakes though.

Great review! Thank you! But truthfully, I am not "wowed" by any of them. I guess I will wait until someone comes out with Copland and Bernstein, or perhaps Williams and Zimmer.
