Are you planning to make a pen case? ie , with them pens lying down instead of standing up?

 

 

Yes, a pen case is on the project list, something with drawers to hold maybe 70 to 100 pens. Not too fancy, but understated and sturdy.

 

The tin is a Pelikan container of some sort. A label on the back side says VIOLETT Adler, 25mm and on the bottom Pelikan Probeband verkurtz. I'm thinking it might have contained a typewriter ribbon or some such. It measures about 6mm square by3.8mm high. I have a couple other old bakelite

round Pelikan typewriter ribbon containers. I'll get some pics up. Handy for holding nibs and other small bits.

Mostly Walnut. There is a little more information about the materials here.

I remember the Pelikan typewriter ribbons and those round containers....

 

when I was a little boy, i saw my dad tinkling with these on his Olivetti typewriter...

It was fascinating ..

These. The two round ones are bakelite and being round it seems obvious to me that they must have been typewriter ribbon cases. The square tin I am not so sure of.

Usually when I make a few at the same time , they often end up being matched sets.

 

Some earlier attempts have turn out to be very nice sets . :)

The sets are very presentable , as your library of journals grow over the years.
