perhaps just work with the flaw..

it has a slight wave, perhaps insert a wave of aquatic colored threads, or crushed paper to symbolize the dragonfly over water?

thinking of, Kintsukuroi, "to repair with gold", the art of repairing pottery with gold or silver and understanding that the piece is more beautiful for having been broken.

Thanks for the ideas....

 

keep them coming...

 

I was thinking of doing a bookcloth swathe across this part.

But I don't know exactly how I should be doing it.

A bookcloth band across with straight lines is kind of too 'hard' a delineation between these two materials.

I am wondering how to soften this edge.

 

I am also dreaming perhaps doing an emboss of a name or logo or something within this band.

This one is another variant ...

 

I wanted to try an analogous harmony colour scheme ...

and

a six station stitching.

 

This is a yellow scheme ...

with an embossed logo ...

 

Front

I wanted to try a six station stitch , where the stations are positioned such a way as to create two sets of three stations...

I also shortened the thread length on the covers...

I felt it helped to make the logo 'POP' better ...

But there is a flaw in the fabric - there's a line (faded by harsh sunlight) somewhere horizonatlly across near the bottom edge ...

I didnt throw it away , too wasteful.

Now is a good time to revisit how to solve this problem....

I just have a feeling that there is a likely solution, its just that I can't pin it down ... yet !!!!

inspired by the way the Japanese sometimes use thread for repairs ...

 

so its a combination of suggestions here , wavy lines , grooves , emboss ...

 

The thread must be such that it cannot be easily compressed

But those would have to be straight lines , I didnt think glue might work ...

Very wabi sabi of you, TM. I really like the irregular threads. Instead of an orange theme, however, I would vote for dark grey stitches to match the background of the cover material and then flyleaves and inside parts in a very subtle color to match the dragonflies, using TR paper, of course. I think that combo would maximize the dragonflies and the texture of the threads by leaving all the attention to those features. Just my two cents, and really not worth more than that because I end up loving every creation of yours.

Those are good comments and they are valid ... :)

 

I didnt spent too much time thinking of the flyleaves.

I was eager to see the emboss using threads as underlay.

 

 

And unfortunately,

I dont have grey thread.. :(

I would have tried that colour scheme.

 

From this simple attempt ,

I have learnt a thing or two ...

 

1) the threads can be thinner, reason being ... the cover is made of fabric and being textile, can hug whatever the underlay pretty well.

 

Smaller threads can achieve the same outcome, but the effect is more refined.

 

2) paper covers may not work as efficiently.

The paper has a lot less 'give' , and probably will not be able to hug the threads tightly.

 

3) glueing is a challenge , where the threads are.

Needs to be wet to allow the fabric to contact all crevices.

But

not too wet , it penetrates the fabric and rises up on the finished surface.

 

4) This attempt is another one where a 'new' technique opens up interesting design possibilities.

 

I have stitched the journal .

But

somehow , ....
