This journal was a study on how light coloured bookcloths respond to emboss / deboss.

 

I learned that the card underlays for light coloured bkcloths can be detected , under close scrutiny ....

So its important to select the right colour for such card underlays

The paper here is non-TR paper

MELLOTEX , Natural White , 100g, smooth

7 signatures but 5 folios each , yielding a total 140 writing pages total.

 

 

This is a nice one ...

Quite solidly built becos of

- the six sewing stations ;

- the paper - 100g but in 5 folios per signature, so each signature is pretty rigid ...

I have laid off hobbycrafting journals for a long time now.

 

Resuming is harder than i thought !

 

Its been slow , but slowly moving up to speed.

 

Whats particularly heartwarming is

1) the folks here who have enquired about my well-being , noticing the longer than usual period of quiet ;

and

2) the folks who have returned to ordering my journals ..... from as long ago as when I first offered them up for sale - as far back as 5 years ago when I first started this thread ....

The order wanted something less strong in the accent hues...

Light blue was a good suggestion.

This is a commission ... by our dear FPNer helming the "Fountain Pen Day" initiative ...

 

 

It started in 2012, and we are proud its now into its third year

 

I am pretty impressed with the very very nice swags he has come with this year.

 

He even engaged a professional to design the now very successful logo.

 

And that was how I got roped in for this years FPD 2014.

 

The logo had thick lines , and so when I was asked to craft a journal bearing this logo, sooner or later , the emboss concept was unavoidable.

 

The first attempt was to continue the concept of my white series of journals , as in all the FPD journals so far ...

Beautiful work, TM. I especially love the peacock feathers (of course) but the FPDay black on white is so stark, it is very appealing...

The orange is nice too, and I would love it as well if I liked orange better - but orange being one of those colors I avoid if at all possible...

The orange theme had another variant.

 

The band closure always goes with the pocket.

so the logo needs to be placed on the cover which wont get obstructed by the band.

 

This was the reason for this variant - putting the pocket back to the rear covers.

For those of you attempting emboss / deboss designs ,

each time you cut the card underlay, you end up with two usable cut-outs - one to form the emboss , and the other , the deboss.

 

So it is with these series of embossed designs ...

Finding the right thickness of card to do such techniques is still a challenge for me.

I am still learning.

I realized after many attempts, the thickness or thinness of these card underlays can be really crucial to the end result.

Its not so straightforward as I earlier thought.

 

anyway,

this one above is from a calendar page - very good quality card .

 

From earlier attempts with light-coloured bookcloths, these card underlays can be visible depending on how light-coloured the bookcloths are.

 

So I reduced the contrast between light and dark coloured parts on the covers like so
