This is the same technique tried on the Red Batik-Ubud fabric...

The covers completely covered with that batik print.

Its a nice and attractive piece of a print.

Then covered with the bookcloth accents

Just as I expected, its more attractive than I imagined ...

Flushed level

I chose a deep purple bookcloth to complement the similar deep purple on the batik fabric.

I guess this is what makes the whole thing matching in hue ...

A check for symmetry ...

Very nearly though ...

I love the colors in this last journal! Orange and red are the perfect pairing...simple, yet elegant and understated. It really shows off the beautiful embossing. You are a true craftsman and artist! I hope you know how much we all enjoy reading these posts of your latest projects! And as an aside, the three journals I own of yours are deeply treasured by me.

The relief is much more pronounced ...

Have you ever thought of using a scrubbing brush with stiff bristles to press material onto stencil? It may well save a lot of time trying to press material into each little corner. I used this technique on something over 20 years ago, though not sure it will work with those materials.

IIRC, I have seen a soft brush, with real bristle used for a similar purpose.

Wallpaper hangers use them similarly.

You wouldn't brush the cloth, just press the brush's bristles down to push the material into the grooves. You could use a bath brush, shoe brush (that is clean), whichever.

This is Journal #133 "Khaki Bookcloth "MN" Emboss" finally completed.

Front with and without the band closure

Rear.

The window fret design is intentionally placed on the rear cover for 2 reasons:

- to sort of 'hide' the design, keeping it subtle, and

- so that the band closure doesn't interfere with the design when its deployed

The khaki bookcloth was hard to match in terms of its hue.

So to keep things neat and simple , I decided on as few colours as possible, using only black

That is a Pelikan 100N , which is smallish in size and makes the journal appear bigger than it actually is.
