Sailor Shigure. Dark Purple Or Blue?

I'm about to make an order for a bottle of Sailor Tokiwa-matsu and Miruia. I was thinking about adding Shigure, too.

The Sailor materials show this to be a medium purple ink (too light for me), while the reviews here appear a very dark blue. Can someone describe this color? Or better yet, make a side by side scan of Shigure with PR Tanzanite or Iroshizuku Shin-kai?

Sailor Shigure is a very dark purple that is well lubricated and will appear almost black if used in fine nibs. I presently have this ink in my Lamy 2000 with a vintage medium nib and it is absolutely great.

I don't have PR Tanzanite or Iro Shin-kai so I can't compare these.

It seems to be one of those colors that is obviously in one category or another. The blue vs. purple cut-off is tough, and seems to be one of the ones that people struggle to identify. There's more inks in the blue-purple range than the red-orange range, and we have names for inks in the yellow-green and green-blue ranges. I think a lot depends on your perceptions and what you're comparing it to. It's bluer than Imperial Purple, but redder than Sargasso Sea: what do we end up with?

That said, it's purple.

Clearly, obviously purple.

Diamine Bilberry I've waffled on, depending on the paper and light, but Shigure is purple.

Shigure, a black/purple, is much darker than Shin-kai, which is a gray/blue. PR Tanzanite is is a brighter purple, while Bilberry is just a shade more purple than Shigure. Bilberry also has a beautiful gold sheen. I like all of them. Sorry I don't have scans.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

Thank you all. Sounds like Shigure will do the trick.

Thanks, Amber. That clarifies things. I didn't expect the Shigure to be so dark, but I love it. My wife will be less pleased. Oh, well, more ink for me.

I received my sample of Shigure and my first impression is that it very "purple" with no blue. It is also much too saturated and much too wet for my use. I'm glad I bought a sample and not a bottle. On to the next...

Got mine too, well its seems flows out really dark blue-purple, more blue than purple, from my Duofold with M size nib. Its carry all the wonderful properties of Sailor inks, which I really love, flows absolutely amazing. But its not the purple I'm looking for, still I'm sure, that I will use this regularly.

I really love it, but lately that Nishikisan and I have been seeing a lot of each other.
