Mixing Iroshizuku & Mb Inks

One of the problems in mixing inks of any brand is the unknown composition. You really cannot predict the effects which could take some time to manifest. Since you do know know what chemicals you are mixing, you can't state with any confidence what will happen, even if that is "no effect".

 

For pens with converters the possible problems are few. So mixing may be quite possible with care.

 

However for pens with sacs and diaphragms the dangers are much higher due to possible interactions with the latex or rubber. I present this from first hand experience with a year-old Vacumatic-style pen with a diaphragm. The pen was having problems filling. The manufacturer took it back for repair and the diaphragm was failing. The only cause could be the ink. Sailor and OS were the predominant inks used with one fill each of Eclat de Saphir and Asa-gao. All of these inks are pretty safe afaik and yet somehow in combination they may well have caused a problem.

Because if I have a bottle of premium ink that doesn't work for me and it only gathers dust on a shelf then the money has truly been wasted!

I bought this ink after reading all the rave reviews but really don't like it. I prefer Asa-Gao. If I can mix Kon-Peki with Noodler's black (or maybe Montblanc Permanent Black) and get a water resistant color that I really like and use... then there won't be any money wasted.

I love the Asa-Gao as well. I recently mixed it with Montblanc Lavender (2:1 MB:ISZ) and the result was almost exactly what I was hoping.

 

*Edit*: It was a small batch (1ml MB and .5ml ISZ measured by syringe) to be used in an empty cartridge with a pilot plumix for testing purposes.

I love the Asa-Gao as well. I recently mixed it with Montblanc Lavender (2:1 MB:ISZ) and the result was almost exactly what I was hoping.

Second... and this is important, there is a rule in this forum that states: "pictures or it didn't happen!" (which is another way of saying "we would love to see how that mix turned out".)

I'm thinking about mixing small amounts of Noodler's Black Eel with Blue Eel. It might be possible to come close to PPS, or at least get a dark blue that's waterproof.
