How Many Pens Do You Own?

Recommended Posts

I had gotten to about 40, but that was too many for me. I trimmed my collection to 27 (currently). There are about eight more pens that I want. At that point, I believe I will be "done." I will probably reach a point where I will sell some of the 27 that I currently have. I've been using FP's long enough to know what I like and what I don't. I've stopped buying any pens other than three brands - see my signature, and when I get those remaining eight, I don't see myself getting any more.

Franklin-Christoph, Italix, and Pilot pens are the best!
Iroshizuku, Diamine, and Waterman inks are my favorites!

Apica, Rhodia, and Clairefontaine make great paper!

80+ FPs from the Hero 332 to an MB. About 40 of these are handmade Indian ebonites.

Three more in the mail from Shanghai.

And around 20 bottles of ink...

More than 60 (mostly vintage) - I don`t dare to count the exact number!

50 would be an ideal number for me. As I`m not a collector (admittedly I DO collect Stylomines from the 40ies), anything more than 50 gives me the willy nillys. Less is (can be) more!

I need to give some more pens away. And I'm embarrassed that I still have an interest in buying a few more pens.

Ditto :)

I'm running at about 70 including 8 or 10 cheap ones. However, I have 4 that I am preparing to sell. I haven't sold any before, so this is new for me. I hope it's not like a hydra where I cut off one and two take its place. :o:

About 40. Only two of them are worth more than $200 (and not much more than that).

I have only 8 pens inked. Don't ask how many aren't. For every pen I sell I somehow get two others to celebrate reducing the collection.

Okay, now I've gotta go count. I'm going to estimate about 40, but 7 of those are a set of Pilot Varsities that I'm going to pass on to my nephew, and about 7 more are various calligraphy pens that I bought in search of an inexpensive usable fine italic.

Wish I could discipline myself to create a database with details for each pen/pencil ... Must be 700-800 collected over the last 20 years. Most are vintage. My daily users come from a very small group of modern pens.

You don't use vintage pens daily?

Nope ... sometimes I have a Parker 51 or 75 in the rotation, and I have been enjoying an Easterbrook J sometimes. However, the pens that give me the most writing pleasure right now are all younger than 20 yrs. old.

More than I need. Fewer than I want.

Approximately 40 at last count.

Surely at you last count you'd know the actual amount and not need approximate.

I've not counted for a while so I think I have approximately 30.

  • 5 beautiful modern pens that work great and make me happy I'm alive on a bad day! I use these most, at home.
  • 4 decent moderately priced new pens I can take out of the house without worrying about them.
  • 3 Lamys (2 old safaris, I gave to my daughter and a joy I use to practice calligraphy).
  • 2 vintage pens (a red esterbrook and a wahl eversharp with a nifty nib). Both work very well.
  • 4 vintage pens I found years ago, not really worth restoring.

So 11 pens that work, 2 that I've lent out and 4 that don't work and probably never will.
