How Many Pens Do You Own?

Way too many. You know you have too many fountain pens when you have over twenty that you've never even inked once.

I actually just took mine out today to look at them. Probably 30-50. Many have little use but I love them.I have gotten rid of a few over the years but mostly just hold on to them

  • 2 months later...

I own 7. Two need repair - so I am using 5. Out of the 5, I use 3 - one in office, one at home, one that I carry.

I have a wishlist of pens that I am planning to buy over the next few months one by one - once I buy all of them, I will have 19.

I thought that this was the year I'd really cut back on acquisitions. I was really good the first half of the year -- only had gotten 5 (not counting the three that my husband bought at an antiques fair last winter and has squirreled away someplace), and several of those were ones I've wanted for a long time. But now I'm up to eight.... Okay, the low-end Snorkel was on sale at an antiques store and I paid (with sales tax) about $8.50 US. The M600 Violet and White was the best price I'd EVER seen one for (less expensive than either of my M405s). The Morrison sterling filigree overlay ringtop? I've wanted one of THEM for several years; the Parker 75? About a year and a lot of due diligence. The Violet Safari? Yeah, I "needed" that; the al-Star? That was on closeout and cost less than the Safari did (Vanness's "Grandpa's Basement page is a dangerous place  -- but it was still cheaper than the Safari was). The Laidtone Duovac? Not super cheap, but really needed to be rescued from the sister store of the place I got the Snorkel Special. And the Waterman? It's gonna cost way more to repair than what I paid (which was zero -- the guy in the place where I found it GAVE it to me on Saturday, when I saw that it was missing the lever.

Okay, it's official. I'm doomed. And no, I haven't done a current count -- but the Aqua Blue Snorkel with the EF nib appears to have gone walkabout  -- and it seemed to be doing so nicely with J Herbin Bleu des Profundeurs, too.... :(

I think it would be interesting to see this data in a visual form. It would be an interesting snapshot of the users on this site.

Possibly use people's membership level, or number of posts, and the number of pens that they own. Maybe even have a entry for the number of pens in current use.

I'd love to see that data.

Uh, that would mean I'd actually have to count them....

I *do* know that the Estie stash is I think 16 or 17 at this point (plus some extra nib units). I have about a dozen Parker 51s, and almost as many Vacumatics, six or seven Parker 45s, four Parker 61s, and maybe 15 or 16 Parker Vectors.... There are about about a dozen Noodler's pens of various models (five Charlie pens because they come free with ink). I'd have to sit down and count the Snorkels, now that I've gotten the cheapie Snorkel Special. A few cheapie Chinese pens, one Sailor, a few Pilots, one Platinum. Four Lamy pens at this point (two Safaris, one al-Star, and one LX). Maybe about nine Pelikans at this point (not counting the M200 Café Crème that I'm convinced will still turn up at some point).

I thought I'd reached my limit about 5, but at the moment I have 11 pens that I actively use plus a couple of cheapies and gifts that sit in a cupboard and probably won't ever be used again. Plus one in the mail.

I've currently lost count and don't really fancy getting them all out (the hardest part) to count them... maybe some other time

My database is up to 159 records (including the M205 Star Ruby that is on order)

And since then my database is now at 172 records... Horrors -- that's more than one pen a month (though two entries are in the COVID-19 postal freeze condition)

Enough so that I do not care about most of the pens.

Fallback position is to the pens I used in my career.

Not all the stuff I bought later.

Currently sitting at 28 after having sold 5 with one more to go. Been pretty reasonable this year as I only added 2 to my "collection". One at the LA Pen Show back in Feb and one coming in the mail from F/C (my second one).

I own about 22 pens (I'm not entirely sure if I have more coming in the mail as I forget!). Most of my pens are modern Conway Stewarts. About 5 years ago in university I would not have imagined owning this many high-quality pens. Patience, a bit of effort and tons of luck certainly helped me build this collection.
