Hello dear members!

some years ago i found my great grandfathers pen

i was so thrilled, but i stashed it in a box, and put it aside, since i rarely use even a pen

The point size is #5

i also learned that the pocket clip was like a trademark equiped from Hardtmuth company

which were the European dealers before WW I for Waterman company

That is the most beautiful pen I have seen also. More attractive than the Montblanc Patrons of the Arts pens, with more attractive and more perfect bling.

Is that the same Hardmuth as from the Koh-i-Noor-Hardmuth pencils???

After googling L & C Hardtmuth which is what's on the clip, that wo uld be an affirmative. Lots of history in that pen in more ways than one. Edited by AZBennett

I think they would have just manufactured the accomodation clips to fit on all sorts of writing instruments. I have a feeling this pen would have been clipless when sold new.

The answer may lie here,

https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/51381-lc-hardtmuth-koh-i-noor/

and here, if you read in wording...penholders maybe.

I also picked this up from a pdf document on pencil evolution,

1937 Koh-I-Noor Polycolor Leads 7/32" (converts to 5.6mm) diameter for Koh-i-noor #48 leadholder.[20] 5.6mm[19] The largest standard lead that will be found in an art supply store, there are 5.45mm and 5.5mm subvariants. Very useful for sketching, pencils in this diameter continue to have a market.[19]

If the lead was that diameter maybe the overall diameter, inc holder, required a clip....who knows.

Thank you everyone!

I too believe that the clip was equipped from Hardtmuth company

Maybe it was charged?

Maybe as a gift?

But it is a useful feature

I remember I have seen some other pens with that clip

Also a picture of a similar waterman pen on the net that did not had that clip

Edit

The dimensions are

Total length closed 135mm

Thickness of the body 13mm

Thickness of the cap 14mm

Seems Hardmuth was a full time Waterman dealer.

I wonder if he made the whole overlay.

Is the overlay hallmarked? (so not the clip)

No, I mean: Is there a gold hallmark on the overlay. I would like to know if the hallmark was a Waterman hallmark, or a Hardmuth one, which would suggest the overlay was made entirely by Hardmuth, just as many wonderful overlays are Italian or French on a standard plain Waterman pen.

I believe all the marks you see are from waterman

At least this is the answer I got from another pen specialist

9 k gold from around 1920's

Thank you 😊
