For me the question is : "What ink is blue-black ?" And the answer is a blue ink when you write which comes to black when it dries.

To be honest in the list I posted yesterday, there are only two blue-black inks : Rohrer & and Klingner 2012 Limited Edition and Bleu sibyllin (Louis Vuitton).

I think there is a big difference between true blue-black inks and blue inks with dark shades. That's a common mistake.

 

 

Blue-black ink was any ink which was a mix of blue and black dyes. BTW, add Blue and Black inks and you get teal.

I would say that compared to my favorites, it was a tad dry, which means that for the average FPN user, it is perfect, neither too dry nor to wet. I still hanker for the perfect, vintage-y looking, grayish blue-black. I have a writing sample from '09 that is perfect, but no notes as to pen or ink.

Ask cool-japan on eBay about it. I'm quite sure he can get it for you. He's the man when it comes to Sailor inks.

Here are the ones I've been through in the search for the ever elusive perfect blue-black ink. There are several here that I own and use regularly, while others have been tested and rejected for various reasons. Still haven't found the perfect one, though.

Sounds like you and I are looking for the same ink. Those four are all close to my ideal, but come up short in one way or another. I keep dreaming that the perfect blue-black is out there.

 

I ordered four more BB samples last night. The search continues...

Keep searching! Something that might grab your attention is L'Artisan Pastellier Equinoxe #6. It is one of the few blue-blacks that I actually enjoy.

I recently gave away my bottle of Black Magic Blue. It behaved well, with moderate flow and decent line quality. I didn't like it because it was too saturated and too purple for my taste. It was also slow drying.

I really, REALLY want that Sailor Kobe 23. Cool-Japan had one, but it's gone.

 

Today I tested side-by-side Chesterfield Sodalite, Diamine Prussian Blue, and both old and new MB Midnight. I'm going with the Sodalite, probably in a Safari. The Prussian showed too green, the old MB a touch green, too, and the new, while a favorite, was too navy.

 

Just call me Goldilocks.

GeoDuc, I've missed you. I like BMB because it is "too saturated" and "too purple". It could dry slower and that would make me happy.
