Engraving

I have no plans to part with my three 146s and would like to get their clips engraved. Unforch, they were made in the 80s, and I do not have engraving vouchers.

How much does MB charge for the service?

Cheers!

It should cost around 30-40 USD (probably depending on the type of engraving-initials/signature etc.). You can visit a MB boutique for that. You could also email them service@montblanc.com :)

Flex Away :D

I'll do it for you for 5$ with my rusty nail.

If you've had the pen for a while, why get it engraved now?

In Singapore, it costs around 20 SGD (US$ 16) for engraving. I did mine in neighbouring country that costs only 4 USD. Prices are engraving at MB boutique.

You do have an option to do it at Authorised distributors who may charge lower and equally qualified.

If engraving the clips will improve them for you, then Montblanc are the people to ask. Please bear in mind that as they will likely last for more than one lifetime, you will be significantly reducing their future value

I engraved my sienna pend cases as well as a couple of my star walker. They won't be for sale and perhaps to be passed on.

Still haven't gotten around engraving my 149 and Heritage 1912

I took a pen in about 5 years ago into the Sydney MB boutique and explained it was a present and don't have receipts or vouchers. They engraved my initials into the clip for free without charge.

Whats the over/under on engraving a pen by Montblanc pen folk? Guess it depends if you are a user or a collector. Also depends if you're a buyer or a seller.... or all of the above. I'd venture to guess it's 50/50. To engrave or not engrave.... a topic discussed here many, many times. Seems to stir up much passion...hehe :D

I would not buy a pen that was already engraved, nor would I go about engraving one of my own pens.

But that's just me

I engraved both my 161 and my wife's 164 our names and the year we got married, as I also bought her the 164 as a wedding gift.

You can do two lines of engraving? I was limited to 1 line and 11 characters.

Interested to see how signature engraving works too. This option wasn't available for me.

My first Montblanc is engraved, but that's because I will never sell it.

The rest I've left alone. I have no intent of parting with them, but I have sold things off in the past when they have fallen out of favor with me.

Nope, All in one line and within 15 characters. I engraved them on the barrel.

I might.

It gives the pen a story.

Interesting topic - do you really think engraving devalues a pen? I guess it is quite personal. For me, if the pen is sufficiently vintage (say 30 years at least), and is otherwise in very good condition, engraving does not pose an issue to me so long as it writes well. In fact, I enjoy picking up bargains when others shun personally engraved pens.

There is your answer. Most people do, you don't (as much).

For some of the newer limited editions I would think personalization could significantly affect the price, maybe 30% for me.

The signature engraving is done by you filling out a form and sending it to MB. I don't recall how I sent mine, but there were instructions at the time (a couple of years ago). I had a 149 engraved for my 45th birthday with my signature and the number 45. I like it.

If you are planning on staying with it, I would engrave it. I engraved my first montblanc with my initials. Even though I did at the MB boutique I also know that certain gift stores at malls do engraving on certain gifts. Might wanna check that out. And they would give more options I think than MB boutique.

Once in the day of the silver dime, the day of One Man, One Pen....engraving was a mark of class and made stealing a pen harder.

As a kid I was never rich enough, nor had such a fine pen that 'should' have been engraved.

There were pen collectors even then....of course they didn't pay for them.

If lost or stolen makes the recovery of the pen more likely.

If well done....I still think it has a bit of class.....It was for events...like retirement, anniversaries.

More so with my name than others.....some day....some day, I'll engrave a couple of my favorite pens....just to show that unwashed midget with his ring, that my pens are much more precious! :) .

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.
