Don't Just Tell Us About The Pen You're Using, *show* Us! - 2015

I knew I had seen this pen before. Looking forward to it.

Are you the one who won the auction on that pen? I came across it when I was looking for some more bunch of dip pen nibs, and I recognised it right away from this thread, so I was watching the auction too. Although for me, postage to Australia is x3 more expensive than the item went for, so I wasn't intending to bid. Enjoy your new

Thanks you very much for writing it down and sharing it with us. :)

Where do you get the gallic acid? (right from the Oak trees?)

Ptero, I got all my chemicals for ink making from eBay. I think the Gallic acid came from a seller in Poland of all places. That was a while ago so I am not sure if they are still available, but using lab chemical is much easier than brewing gallic acid out of oak gall or any other plant, I think. I am not even sure if oak gall trees grow in Australia. If I had to mess with stinky mouldy concoction just to get some chemical out of plants, I wouldn't have bothered to try and make my own IG inks. :)

This was "The Pen" for me for 20+ years. I did all my uni work, undergraduate and post graduate degrees, wrote my journal entries over those years, and it still looks presentable. Back then the idea of flushing ink from the pen was foreign to me, when I switched colour form black to blue and back, I just let the new ink colour come through eventually after a period of mixed colour. I never used a pen case, it was always in the pen loop in my trusty old Filofax (remember those?) that I had all my life packed up in between its pages. That was way before iPhones and smartphones.

Everything changed when I found FPN about 2 years ago. I know it's the same story as everyone on this forum. My world was opened up to inks, nibs, nibs, inks, vintage pens, and more inks!

Everyone starts somewhere. This pen was my start. I still cherish it, and it will be handed down to one of my sons when I am gone. My parents had my name engraved on it so it is not going anywhere outside of my family. :)

Thanks. Gave IT a re-read recently, and I can't get the phrase out of my head.

What a funny nib ....

The very first fountain pen I got almost a decade ago was a Lanbo that had a nib very similar to that one. It also had a self-flossing device.
