I catch on quickly, I believe it was a couple of years ago Ptero converted me. I was originally a nail head fine to medium writer, a series of Sheaffer 82C's (flat tops) and Parker Duofold Seniors were my choice pen. Ive definitely learned a great deal of information, inks, paper, pens, repairs etc. Amberleadavis and dcpritch were instrumental in my growth.. :)

Tringle, it is interesting that a lot of people seem to follow the same path of starting with F/M nail nibs then moving on to flex or broad/stub or both. I am bang on right on the same path, although I am much further behind you. For me this particular thread plus the Stub of the Day thread have been the biggest enablers. I really enjoy seeing other people's pens and writing and learning a lot!

Sorry about the dark photo..cell phone, in my office on a dark day, but I did want to capture the blue in the ink.

Tim

I see some larger pens, like this one and MB149 and M1000, and I really like the look of them, but aside from the fact that I can ill afford those bigger pens, they are too big and heavy for me to use comfortably for long writing sessions. I can't bring myself to get a pen just to look at and to only please my eyes, so I tend not to go for the big pens. Another reason why I would like my husband to get into this hobby is because then I can actually buy big pens, and they can be used by him, and I won't have to feel guilty for getting pens that won't be inked up and used very often! ;)

I feared that the first Racoon feels lonely, so I made him a companion today.....

As always, your ink colour blending is very nice. Especially now I know that you work agains the clock to get the ink washed over before it dries. Was the white highlight done with white pencil or pen?

Such a cute raccoon! I like the colors of the tree branch, too. :)

Just finished a new Frankenpen: Rosetta Napoleon II Lemon Ice with a #5 Edison feed and collar, with a 1947 standard Parker Vacumatic 14k semi-flex fine nib. I call it "Limoncello."

"Limoncello" is the perfect name for your pen, I think. Oh and the cuteness of the notepad! It seems to take the ink really well. What type of paper is it?

You got me, I forgot to mention it. :)

The highlights are done with an Uni-Ball Signo White gel pen (afterwards blended with the water brush that they get not too dominant)

SNAK,

Andy's Pens has the Varuna Vishal listed and reduced...they're not expensive at all, and are really well made. I have never been thrilled with the Wality nibs, however, so have used mine with whatever this nib is, probably Jowo, and/or an Edison broad nib I have. The nib units are threaded so are easily interchangeable. Remember, it is a large eyedropper (which I would probably not recommend for a starter pen because of the leak risk), so will need to be well sealed with silicone grease both on the barrel threads and the nib unit threads. There are also smaller models...

best,

Tim

Thanks! I'm rather fond of it already. It helps that it has a Parker nib, my most favorite of nibs, hah! As for the paper pad, I found it several years ago in a discount bin. It's a Harajuku Lovers item, made by Gwen Stefani. Other than that, no clue about the weight. It's fairly smooth and handles ink well except in the wettest of areas. It was such a large block, it's taken about three years to wear it down to where it is. :P

Wow! That looks good. I have a Napoleon I am not glad with the nib, never starts right up, so I was hoping the nib was removable, but have not tried it.any advise? You can PM me so the trail doe snot get highjacked with another subject ;-)

The nib and feed are just friction fit, so they pull straight out. Real easy! If they're in tight, coax it out with gentle wiggling while pulling. The feed goes back in only one way, so it's easy to put it and a new nib back in. (The Napoleon takes a #5 JoWo size nib, so other #5 steel nibs will fit. Vintage, unmarked, gold ones ones you'll have to experiment with and eyeball to find a similar size.)

Pretty short answer! Other than that, I'd advise watching some videos on how to take pens apart on YouTube.

Teahive, Thanks! I would go fishing for that Jowo nib, probably a 1.1 /1.5 mm if it is available on that size. I love the size of the Napoleon, I can place it side by side with the TWSBI mini on a 2 pen case. Great combo! Mine is turtoise

You can look forward to using Apache Sunset. It is really something different! :-) The colour is even better than on my photo.
