Don't Just Tell Us About The Pen You're Using, *show* Us! - 2015

SNAK - the no Shellac India Ink is surprisingly not a true black.. it is a dark gray, more like a 2B pencil... here is what the label says. I bought two bottles of this at a local office supply when they were cleaning to move... also bought a pen labeled PEN AND INK SKETCH as well.

I have used the ink in many pens with no issues... down to one bottle and a eyedropper worth in the other...

Thanks for the close up photos. I have looked for sources here in Australia but it seems they are hard to get over here. I will have to wait until I will do a big shopping and use a parcel forwarder next time. It seems Amazon even carries it so it won't be too hard to get but just need to consolidate on the shipping over to here. In the meantime I shall read the reviews, it seems some like it and some don't from what I've read so far.

This is exactly what I need to do! I bought this pen and it came with a dreadful extra-fine nib that I simply cannot use. Did you have someone redo the nib for you, or did you do it yourself? I have a nice Waterman nib that I'd love to put on this pen. Advice?

This particular pen was bought with this vintage nib in it (from Mauricio), but with Pelikan, it isn't too hard to swap the nib out and put in the vintage one, provided the nib is the right size.

What size Waterman nib do you have? I have played with a few modern Pelikans and for me, regular Waterman #2 is the best candidate to put in them. Swan #2 (both US and English made) also work, as well as Skyline one. I am sure there are many others that work too.

But with the vintage nibs, even within the same Waterman #2 nibs the thickness of the gold, the curvature at the front of the nib are different in one nib from another, so it can be a hit or miss in terms of fitting the feed and sliding onto the ring collar when the nib is put together with the feed. You just have to try it and see.

If you don't have a knockout block, you can make one by drilling a hole in a thick piece of wood. I found that the 6mm hole is roughly what you want for Pelikans (up to M600, because I don't have M800/M1000 as they are too heavy for me), that size hole will let you insert the nib down without the block catching on the widest area of the nibs, but still lets the ring collar to set on top and lets you tap out the feed/nib from the top.

Good luck! The Waterman #2 size nib (and other similar sized nibs) also fits well onto TWSBI 580/Mini FYI.

Edited because I can't spell this morning, and auto correction makes me write pelikan with a "c".

Thanks for the suggestions. I do have a couple of leaky and problematic Waterman 52 BCHR pens --with #2 nibs-- that sit in a drawer gathering dust. I'd love to resurrect the Pelikan with a nice nib, but a TWSBI might be a better option. Updates to come. Thanks again!

I wish my husband shared my interest in fountain pens but he is a left handed overwriter so fountain pens and he do not get along too well unfortunately.

I'm a lefty over-writer and the fountain pens and me get along real good. :-) *And* I get along pretty well with my wife, too!

^ Whoops I managed to tear the TR paper!

Pen: Pelikan M200 Cognac with vintage 14k Warranted nib

Ink: De Atramentis Document Brown

Paper: Tomoe River (White)

A couple pens are in my wish list ; the Pelican Cognac is in the top 5. Beautiful color, and such a cute pen. May be the only rider that has checked me is its light weight. Still I think I should have had it much before.

After having been away from it for some time, I've been delighting in catching up on this thread. Thanks to all who make is such a lovely place to drop by.

And, since I recently mentioned my pen-hound who wants to be a lap-dog...

To keep this on topic -- if, perhaps a bit "Where's Waldo" -- I will say that visible in this photo are a Lamy 2000, a teal Parker 51 with a vermeil cap, a Columbus Extra 132, and a Caw's...along with a bunch of ballpoints and dip pens in the marmalade jars, and Pelikan and Akkerman ink bottles. Thank goodness the rest of my desk isn't showing, or I'd have to type out a much longer list.

Houston, thanks for sharing... love the pup... and the desk/work area looks inviting... I can imagine smooth sounds coming out of those speakers, birds chirping outside the windows, and wonderful correspondence going on at the desk.

The only Conway Stewart I have is a wet noodle...always wanted an uber flexy pen, then when I got one I can hardly write with it... I am better off with the Esterbrooks, less skill required. :happyberet:

...and some random scribbles as I flushed and filled new pens for the rotation...

If you think everything is going well... you obviously have no idea what is really going on!

Attila, all the best for you in your laptop hunting and the potential sale of your pen (if you decide to sell it). Look at the bright side, if you will get another M1000 in the future you get to do the shopping (fun bit!) all over again. But I know, once a pen comes into your life and you start writing with it as yours, it becomes your personal possession so it will be hard to let it go.

Wow! Another example of left handed overwriter I can present to my husband! Tim (tmenyc) has kindly showed us the way he holds his pen and writes with it, and it was a huge eyeopener for my husband. Now he just needs to sit down and dedicate some time to practice using a fountain pen. I gave him my son's Lamy ABC and Pelicano Jr. to play around with, but they were discarded by him (to my son's delight) as he didn't like those cutouts on the grip section. We'll try again with something else some other time.

Houston, how long did you have to practice to get your expressions to match? Great looking dog! (and the pens are nice too)

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Oh how cute (both of you)!

And you forgot to tell us what's in the plate next to your computer.

You've got beautiful handwriting and pen. Would be lovely to see more.

Hardly! :D

They are huge! and beautiful. Are they hefty in weight as well, especially that Parker giant?

I am sure you can handle them real well.

@SNAK - For a surprisingly large pen both length and diameter the balance is near perfect. The PBG holds nearly a full bottle of ink and the Parker #12 size nib sings on paper. The singing reminds me of a Pelikan pen I once had.....I have a writing sample I was going to include but for some reason it ended up in my shred pile.

@Houston - I would have to say the Columbus and the Caw's are my favorites. Great photo!

You're kind, SNAK. (I'm a compatriot Aussie, by the way... Just residing in Blighty.) The pen-hound is empirically and by far the cuter mammal.

Not sure if you were genuinely curious about what's in the little dish by the computer, or just taking the (bleep)... But, just on the off chance you actually wanted to know, it's a dish of sea shells and beach-washed coral, all mementos from the romantic history I share with my beloved. Some from Oz, and some from Fiji.
