Don't Just Tell Us About The Pen You're Using, *show* Us! - 2015

Ok so no school today for the kids... and... it was dads day to stay home and entertain them... so icy here in West Michigan our family dog fell down the steps trying to negotiate her way to the yard. LOL, she survived although her ego is a bit bruised.

Prvt Toter: Just catching up with this thread after a while, so reaching back to a rather old post of yours. Is that pen-hound a Magyar Vizsla? Or is she a Weim? Fortunately, my Vizsla prefers bashing at my keyboard while trying to climb onto my lap, and hasn't shown any desire to fetch my pens. --h

Houston,

Actually she is a silver Labrador Retriever. 2 years old, and yes, she too thinks she is a lap dog... You are probably lucky on the not getting your Vizsla to fetch your pens. Those teeth marks are a bear to deal with. :lticaptd: Love those Vizsla's though!

And to include some writery and a pen... an old but restored Remington Pen/Pencil combo...

If you think everything is going well... you obviously have no idea what is really going on!

I just got a bunch of those pen/pencil combos. I've done a few quick dip tests and found some really nice writers. I'm currently working on some nice ones - Packard, Travelers, Arnold, and a couple no-names.

Still struggling with hand control and range of motion issues but I'm starting to actually be able to finish a paragraph again. :)

Pen I made myself - just finished this one up the other day. (I make kit pens.) I like how this one writes, even with the kit nib, but am giving thoughts to upgrading the nib on it. I've used a FP on and off since getting my first one a little over a year ago. I've recently decided that I would like to use them more and learn more about them. I'm also hoping to start writing with FP's exclusively for a while in an attempt to improve my handwriting.

How can I say no. This is one "I prepared earlier" and I can never tell if the hatching is going to look artificial or too much or too little. I think it could use a bit more but then again I am afraid to add more in case I make it worse. Choices and decisions. It's tough.

Pen: TWSBI Vac 700 with vintage Massag G dip nib

Ink: Platinum Carbon Black and Pigment Sepia mixture

Paper: Moleskine Pocket Sketchbook (165gsm)

Others: Kaweco Special Mechanical Pencil 2.0mm 4B lead, Sakura Koi watercolour brush, Winsor & Newton Artists watercolour half pans

Wow, this is really good, thanks for showing it. :happyberet:

The hatching looks good to me

You are right these decisions are tough, I know them also well. ;)

I´d like to see more from you, please keep it coming! :bunny01:

Currently I have watercolour pencils, but no "real" watercolour pans.

Do you have a comparison between pencils and pans?

In case you have, what do you prefer?

Btw. are you experimenting with ink mixtures? (looking on the right side of your sketchbook.

Thanks for your feedback to my interpretation off the 3 monkeys ....3 hands ;)

Pen: Namiki Falcon (Soft Broad)

Ink: Private Reserve Orange Crush

Paper: Tomoe River (White)

Guest appearance: T-Rex from our favourite (at the moment) pop-up book "Encyclopedia Prehistorica: Dinosaurs" by R. Sabuda & M. Reinhart

Great pictures, I like your handwriting, it´s really dynamically and the overall picture of your hand is very homogeneous.

The picture with the T-rex is awesome.

Today I have another skribbling with my Serwex MB.
It´s inspired by the exercise "Rough Stone" in the Lohan book.

Is that like a humongous notebook, or a sketchbook type book you wrote on? The same page seems to go on and on judging form the size of the pens. What is it?

@SNAK - This is a Rhodia desk pad, with dot paper, the dimensions are 16.5 x 12.5 inches. also comes in graph paper. :yikes:

Cool new pen, different type of filling system. Instead of a lever, button piston etc. this has a ink "battery" that you fill the barrel up with ink and allow the ink to be saturated by the water.

Congratulations on your positive move towards recovery. The cast they put on your hand was really serious looking as I recall. Your writing shows that you already have great control so good going!

I'll see what I can do about the "see more from you" bit. I am kind of in a funk with sketching at the moment since I just can't seem to get people sketching right. It's a struggle but I'll get there eventually, I hope.

Unfortunately I don't have much experience with artists watercolour pencils. The only two I have are the white and black Faber-Castel Albrecht Durer pencils, just for correcting mistakes in watercolour.

The facing page was my experiments with watercolour paint to find out my favourite mixture to make dark grey/black colour from single pigment paint colours. I am only a beginner so I am testing things out a lot. :)
