(Pelikan 400NN Brown Tortoise - F ..... Rohrer & Klingner Verdura)

I will try to do some squiggle soon. In the mean time, please do more of your beautiful artwork too! I enjoy all of them. They are exciting.

On an iPhone if you hold down the home button and the power button together for a moment, you can take a screenshot of whatever's on your screen.

Wow I didn't know about it at all! And I have used most all iPhone generations except iPhone5. I tried it, and it works! There are so many things I don't know. How did you find out about it, there is no manual for those things that come with the iPhone, or does it?

And on android you swipe your hand across the screen, but the setting has to be on.

Snak, nice family shot! They're all from the 50's, right?

Tim

Yes I believe the 85L pens are from the 50's and some of them were even made in the early 60's too.

Oh my. Never has this smiley been more apt:

My pen today is the antithesis of such fabulous looks, in being low in bling by design. I know; C/C demonstrators are not everyone's cup of tea, and the inner cap is a little on the opaque side, but something about being able to watch that slip'n'seal function just appeals to me beyond all reason.

fpn_1426755647__3776saikonpeki.jpg

Ohhhh I love demonstrators. C/C, piston, vac, or ED fill doesn't matter to me when it comes to seeing the colour of ink inside the pen! I like pretty things and your pen is gorgeous!

SNAK - That green one is TDF. (to die for) :)

Oh.....MY! I love that herringbone.

+1. It is the best looking one in that little family... (IMHO)

Trying to be a good mum, I don't have a favourite, but poor plain black one tends to be inked up less often only because its nib is a little inspiring medium nail. Apparently there are 10 colours/patterns that were produced in the 85L size so I have a long way to go, and I don't want to add to the family just because a pen has the right pattern. Nib counts and the way the pen writes. I don't think I will ever complete the big family of 10, but I have many years ahead of me still. ;)

Very nice photography too, I would be interested in knowing the camera and settings.

I know that many prefer some age appearance on their pens but you may want to know that NOS clips are available, sorry, just read that again and it sounds like an insult, wasnt meant to be.

Thanks Beechwood, and a good pickup on the deplorable state of the clips. Nearly all of my vintage Conway Stewart pens have that problem of very bad plating on the clip, and on the clip only. All other plated parts are perfectly intact. I did consider the new old clips but when I tried to take the clip off of one of the worse ones (I think it was the green one) the flat screwhead inside of the cap was so tightly fused that I didn't want to force it too much to unscrew it, so that discouraged me big time, and clip replacement project has been put into the "too tricky" basket ever since. I know I would like to get them replaced and get my 85L's all prettied up some time in the future.

Thanks for your compliment on the pictures. I don't have a major setup or anything for them. I have an ancient Nikon D90 camera that needs upgrading soon (but I've been saying that for the last 5 years or more :D). For shooting pens I use an even older Micro Nikkor 105mm f/2.8D lens, and the 35mm f/1.8G lens sometimes. I don't have light tents or umbrellas so I rely on good old Australian sunlight and avoid direct light. I have a few Speedlights I used to play with for Strobist practice, and I want to try to incorporate them but I am too lazy to set them up for night time etc, so I just make do with natural light. I looked at the metadata of the three above, and here are the details. HIH.

1. 105mm, f/11, 1/60 sec (nib shot)

2. 35mm, f/18, 1/200 sec (note shot)

3. 105mm, f/13, 1/80 sec (family portrait)

Edited to add: I shoot in RAW, and I put the photos through Lightroom after I shoot them and play with the sliders until the colours look about right. Then export to size suitable for FPN.

Well, not as pretty as some, but this is my little group for the day.

Love the Skyline. Ever since I read someone say that the Skyline's top looks like R2D2's head, I can't look at it without thinking R2D2. And he's my most favourite character in StarWars.

I was lucky enough to find a 94 with the original olive-colored feed. Nice pens, aren't they?!

Holy Grail, I love Waterman's of that period. I wish I have them all some day :yikes:

I just got home with these. I got them in a lot I bought at auction. The listing stated - Onward, Travelers, Moore and others.

Thanks for that Snak, I need to upgrade too froma point and shoot Lumix, I can never obtain the crispness that others find, more light and less red wine might be possible answers.

I have seen good results on old CS clips with the use of metal polish followed by a coat of clear nail lacquer, an inexpensive bodge until you get around to doing the job properly.

Ok, I think many of you know the following motif quite well.

Now I also sketched it, the first demonstration picture from Frank Lohan´s book "Pen & Ink Sketching"

But I added a slight coloration with my Albrecht Dürer watercolour pencils (I couldn´t resist ;) ).

Yes, the cap is translucent, and very pretty in bright light! If I get another, I'll probably go with the Persimmon Swirl --a real eye-catcher!

My trio for the day—

  • Newly arrived Edison Collier EF (Persimmon Swirl Acrylic) filled with Omas Blue
  • Waterman Exclusive F filled with Waterman Purple
  • Pelikan M215 .5mm cursive filled with Platinum Blue-Black

fpn_1428257416__pen-trio.jpg

Halloween, is that the Persimmon Swirl that you mentioned that Bookman showed us?

It is a gorgeous pattern. If it were my pen, I would definitely ink it up with Iro Fuyugaki (winter persimmon) ink. That would be a match made in heaven I think.

Nah, I would keep enjoying the wine and just get a tripod! ;)

Thanks for the clear nail polish suggestion, but I don't trust myself to be able to do a good job, so I think I will just leave them be until I can't stand the brassing any more, then will take them all to the local (meaning within same country) pen repair shop.

Your sketch shows the depth of field really nicely. I like your cross hatching. When I try hatching I either do too much, or not enough.
