It's a portafilter or group handle from my coffee maker. The pen kept sliding off of it so I had to resort to using a little bit of kneaded eraser to stick the pen to it in the end.

I am really glad you like them. The lot was actually placed on one of my chopping boards. I wish I had a big table made of end grain wood like this.
