A sunny, warm winter weekend is nice to catch up on correspondence, or walk around the garden and admire the flower buds already starting to develop, preparing for springtime to come. My lovely zen moment.

Took my new Visconti Van Gogh outside to play in the garden. He seemed to enjoy it. ;)

Sorry that my photos are not very good. I tried to capture the lovely swirls of the resin in the second photo. I need to play with my camera more :) Hahaha, and jeepers, I nearly spelled Rhodia incorrectly!! Ahh well, I had fun anyway :D

I have another golden Sheaffer... The name is Sheaffer Imperial 500... A model designed and made here in Brazil, when Sheaffer had a factory here... A pic comparing Imperial Triumph with Imperial 500...

Wow they are like 2/3 peas in a pod! I see why you like them, they are very pretty pens!

I restored my first vintage pen, and I can't stop using it! It's a late 20's or early 30's Ambassador/J. Harris pen, and apart from that I don't know much about it. It has a 'Warranted 14KT' nib, which is really nice, since these were cheaper pens in the day. It was sitting on my stepfather's desk for as long as I can remember, and I decided to fix it up and make it usable!

You did a greta restoration job from the looks of it. It seems to write a nice wet line. Well done!

Yes, those vintage Lamy pens are wonderful. I used to have one, but, sadly, sold it.

Thanks Feathers, I really like it too. The size fits my small hand like a glove, and it's a real workhorse.

akustyk, my Lamy 27 is missing a clutch ring, so I used a rubber O-ring for Preppy ED conversion to make the cap "click!" close properly. I know this pen is the direct predecessor of Lamy 2000 so I have been wanting to get a Lamy2K too, but its material on the barrel (brushed plastic?) is odd feeling to me so I haven't bought one yet.

All three are stubs and all three are silver in color (one is stainless steel) Sorry that I don't have a close up of the solid one, but I will take more photos soon.

Amber, I particularly like that Barleycorn patterned one, its nib looks really nice too! What's the pink ink?

Thank you for the kind words! It was in pretty bad shape to begin with, and I'm kicking myself for not taking pictures. Oh well!

Bung Box Mother's Pink. I thought it would be too gray for me, but I've come to really like it.

It's amazing how nice these vintage "lesser" MBs are. They're smooth as silk. I have a 344 that's a far better writer than the later 144 Meisterstück I have in my collection.

That is a lovely little pen. I didn't realize that MB made school level pens. Shows how little I know! LOL Very cool!

Interesting! What would a pen like this go for back in the day? I don't know much about vintage MB, but I have heard this over and over, that older is the way to go. Even when I tried some older NOS pens and compared them to a brand spanking new 149, the difference was remarkable. I really need to start expanding into vintage I think.

Whatever you do, don't let go of that Monte Rosa! Your handwriting, ink, and paper suit it perfectly, and with a little education and effort, I think you'll be able to find other vintage MBs that you'll love as well.

After never owning a Lamy Safari/Vista/AL-Star, I am so happy I have one now! I used to have a Studio, that was quickly gifted to my father (I have no idea where it is right now...), anyway, I just love them! I love them so much that I definitely didn't just buy the 2015 Copper Orange edition. Oops (not oops). I will also buy each special edition from here on out.

I also never say how big the nib is on these things, so I guess I'll start! It's a medium.

I totally agree! The nib is very smooth for a steel nib. And it holds a ton of ink, which certainly will last any student a whole day of school work plus homework. I think the gold nib version, the 042G, may be even nicer but I am very happy with mine. I have a few vintage MB's and they are all very nice writers.

I don't know exactly how much a Monte Rosa would have cost back in the 1950's, but since it is a school pen, perhaps about the similar value as what we pay now for Lamy Safari or Pelikano Jr (just a wild guess)? Teachers wouldn't want kids running around with $100's worth of pen at school, I don't think. :)

Neither would the parents! I was fascinated by Sheaffer Snorkels as a kid, and I whined until my parents bought me a PFM I (retail then was $10, a III would have been $5 more). They didn't allow me to take it to school (I was in seventh grade) because they were afraid I would lose it. Can't remember how it happened, but eventually it did get lost. By that time I had a sterling Parker 75 and a Montblanc 149, and I haven't lost a pen since.

Here's a photo of what my PFM I looked like:
