I wish Amazon USA would offer this same deal for us Yankees...Its an amazing opportunity to pick up a wonderful pen at a great price.

If you want to feel better about Amazon's prices, just take a look at the .ca version and see what us Canadians get stiffed with! I got an order in that allowed for shipping to Canada on this pen when it comes in stock... Will they not ship to America?

New member here. Happened upon FPN not too long ago, and have been spending a fair bit of time on site. I wanted to thank OP and other members; was interested in the Carene, stumbled upon this thread, found the item at OP's noted price, and thought I'd take a chance (as I have not bought much from overseas internet retailers.) Package arrived fairly quickly and in good order. I have not inked the Carene up yet. Came in a white wrapper with what appears to be a Waterman branded UPC affixed. Box inside (actual pen box) was heavy, blue Waterman variety. I mention this as someone stated there was a permanent amazon sticker on theirs; I did not find this (unless the Waterman UPC code is what they were referring to.) No matter for me; this one is a keeper, and will be part of a small but growing collection. Convertor came inside the pen, box of Waterman cartridges underneath. I'll update if I find any issues.

One note on Amazon UK (if in U.S. / forgive me if already aware): site offers two ways to pay. I opted to use Amazon's site currency converter mechanism (pounds to dollars) which, in hindsight, was seemingly an expensive option. Paying in GBP and allowing my bank to do conversion (rate and % fee) would seemingly have given me a better exchange. Of course, bank terms may differ so check first.

As I am seemingly not able to start a new thread (assume it's because I'm new) I thought I would post another item that looks interesting at Amazon UK (as I looked for other items after the Carene):

PARKER SONNET CISELE STERLING – 126.28 GBP:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Parker-Sonnet-Cisele-Sterling-Fountain/dp/B001H7VP86

Price was / is 126.28 GBP. If in US, price will be lower (excl. VAT). From what I've read briefly at FPN, some seem to love the Sonnet nib, others had to work on theirs or were unhappy (Just my brief observation). Sonnet Cisele is out of my price range at present (was looking at lower-end versions) so I'm gonna pass. I am not affiliated with Amazon, Amazon UK, or any other Amazon for that matter. Please let me know if I posted correctly – if not, please forgive me. Can't wait to ink my new Carene...soooooooooooon!

WOW! That didn't last long. I got 2 for my friends and then the offer disappeared.

Thanks to the OP for highlighting this - got mine from WH Smith and the replacement with a stub nib arrived today.

I suspect the whole pen got changed because it looks just a little bit more worn than the brand new pen I sent off, which doesn't really worry me because the stub nib is lovely. They also sent it back with a converter fitted (I hadn't included the original when I sent the pen away just in case it got lost) and another cartridge, to add to the six that came with the original pen. So what a fabulous deal.

I chose my user name years ago - I have no links to BBS pens (other than owning one!)

Therecorder: I, got excited when I saw the price at the link you posted; however, it is for the lowest of 4 different models of Waterman this retailer is offering. If you select for Carene as well as nib size it shows 145 GBP plus 15 GBP shipping (or more than double the price of the Black Carene), and in line with the price of the Blue Obsession Carene elsewhere - 160 GBP with shipping. Would have been nice...

Sorry about that... Selected a pen, but not a nib... Guess also I was (too) excited.

Still and all not a bad price for that model (which retails for considerably higher than the black), and there's nothing at all to be sorry about. Cheers!

Thanks for the pointer to amazon uk.

I got the black lacque, gold trim with a medium nib for 107 USD shipped to the US which is a great price--about half what it runs on the Amazon US site.

Other colors and nibs were more, but I actually like black pens and medium nibs, so it works for me!

  • 3 weeks later...

£72.50 seems to be regular now.

Odd when I thought the PSFF was given a hard time by Waterman for selling cheaper than retailers.

This is so cheap when you consider there are currently 2 sections on ebay priced at £155 (ridiculous) and £45.

They are also doing a similar deal with the black Expert fountain pen. I love Waterman pens and so am very happy :D

Incidentally, it is only 60 pounds shipped outside the EU. A few of us here clubbed together and bought 4 to in effect quarter the postage. Worked out at 63 pounds each including postage.....very nice indeed.

  • 4 months later...

Quick heads up to anyone interested. As of now several (many) of the Medium Carenes, including one of the metal variety, are listed at 90 Pounds (around 119 USD / shipping to the US will add - if I remember correctly - around $12 or so.). I myself am going to pass as the Carene medium is a bit two wide a line for my taste, and the last one I got from Amazon UK is a bit off (flow issues). Others have reported good results. YMMV. One note: I tried twice to contact Waterman for warranty work on my Carene and got no response. Conversely, I have an Exception Slim in Fine and it is amazing.
