Has Anyone Heard Of Henry Simpole 2015

View from the loft, perhaps next time we meet you could try them

Unfortunately, I've rather gone off Sonnets. Yes, they can be nice writers, but they don't stand up to life as everyday users: the caps become loose, and I've been informed by someone I believe to be reliable that this can't be resolved. So I now have a green marbled lacque Sonnet that is now, in effect, an ornament.

Laughed out loud at the story of the inscription on the grey Duofold and then had a sneaky check of the Duofold Junior you sold to me at the show. No dodgy engraving, just the usual barrel imprint.

I enjoyed the show this year. I've no idea about the overall numbers, but it didn't feel as crowded as last year. Maybe that was due to the early bird entry fee?

Quite understandably, [the week after the London Pen Show] it was quite quiet [pen-wise[ up at Portobello Road on Saturday. But I did have a stroke of luck during the course of the morning.

Two ladies approached my stand, and asked me if I would be interested in buying 'two old pens', I said that I was, and two boxes were produced, and they turned out to be a Parker Ball-point, and a Sheaffer propelling pencil! I made an offer for them both, and the deal was done, and the two ladies left.

When I got home, I had a look in my safe back in the workshop, and took out a boxed [mint condition] blue Mk 5 Sheaffer PFM pen, which is part of my 'pension scheme collection'. The pencil that I had bought earlier in the day, was also deep blue, and had a gold-filled cap, and it even had it's chalk-marked price on the barrel!

I had a look through my selection of pen boxes, and found a very presentable Sheaffer double-box to put them both in, and I put the box back in the safe!

A very nice addition to my personal collection, I think!

I am very pleased to tell anyone here who might be interested, that the Garden Seat is now fully re-assembled, and stands proudly in my Aunt's conservatory!

After several set-backs, I had to correct rather too many mistakes, but overall, I am pleased with the end result, and I hope that if I come across another set of 'sides' to such a garden seat, I hope that I will remember the mistakes that I made this time!

There is an expression that I was told by a very knowledgable 'older' chef who I worked with while I was still in training. "The only difference between an experienced chef and an inexperienced one, is that the inexperienced chef hasn't made all the mistakes that the experienced one has already made!"

Very true, I think!

Truffle Finder. :) :D

PS. The next time my brother-in-law comes over here [to see his mum!] I will ask him if he can take a few photographs of the garden seat, so that I can arrange to get them posted on this thread.

As Ghost Plane has been known to say, "If there aren't any pictures, then it didn't happen!"

Unusually for the approaching Saturday up at Portobello, it looks as though I will be kept quite busy this week, as I have received a few E-mails and phone calls, to inform me that some customers are coming to visit my stand tomorrow.

One gentleman is coming to pick up a Myrtle overlaid pen in silver, and another couple from California, are also coming over here, [they seem to take their UK holiday at the same time each year] and they are hoping to see me tomorrow, I hope that I will have pen or pens that they like!

Hopefully, there might be some nice 'goodies' to buy during the course of the day as well!

I'll keep you 'posted'!

Yesterday up at Portobello was really quite busy, [as I had half expected] but unfortunately, when I went to fill in the certificate for the Mrytle Pen, I discovered that it had not been Hall-marked, or numbered! This was more unfortunate, because I couldn't contact the gentleman who was due to come and see me, to pick it up!

Anyway, he was very good about it, and I did assure him that I would get it done during this coming week, and then send the pen to him Post-Haste!

The rest of the day kept me quite busy, with a couple who had come from California, and chose two lovely pens that they took fancies to!

A few people came along to collect their repaired fountain pens, and as the day went on, I was offered quite a few quite nice vintage pens, [all of them, I bought!] so the rest of today will no doubt be taken up with plenty of restoration work.

A good day, in the end!

Great job Henry! Another restoration on your CV.

Looking for a black SJ Transitional Esterbrook Pen. (It's smaller than an sj)

:yikes: Finally the much talked about has been revealed in all its glory....with a

demonstration of purpose and usefulness to boot! Bravo and kudos to you dearest Truffle!

It's quite lovely and just your size! B)

I wonder if I might face it toward the window to enjoy the garden view. Good fox-spotting

position there! ;)

You have, but it's been awhile. Still wish for a blue one, but that's persnickety me.

You mean like my original Tear Drop, which is different in base pen, but definitely blue?

Isn't that one of those really weird nibs, which 'curses' loudly when going round particularly tight corners?!

Nice looking pen though!
