Has Anyone Heard Of Henry Simpole 2015

Sorry RMN, I'm afraid I don't remember what name he worked under.

To be quite honest, I am not even sure what he calls his company name now!

Had to chime in...

Peter Ford is alive and well and trading as AusPens (dot com) in Australia. No longer does repairs for others but sells beautifully restored pens. I know because I just bought a very nice 1944 blue diamond Parker 51 vac with gold trim from him :D

Like someone else that comes to mind he doesn't realise how much he is truly appreciated ;)

As this is the first time I have chimed in here, may I say that one of the things on my bucket list is to go to a certain portobello stall and meet Mr Simpole... Looks like it is becoming an Aussie right of passage ... Will be in the uk in late august - arriving on a Saturday so if the jet lag allows might just make it!

Belated felicitations on the anniversary of your appearance. :bunny01:

Been elsewhere

The Spirit is torn between a drink of Kobe Sepia, Sumo Purple, or Nightshade. Might have to choose a bottle at random to settle the matter. :D

Thanks for that, Tack!

I very much appreciate your comments, and thanks for making the effort to post something on this thread, there seem to be plenty of people who just pop in and have a look, but don't say anything!

When you do fly over here [to London] do let me know when you might be coming to Portobello Road, and I will stay later than usual, at my booth. [it would be awful if you made it up there straight from the airport, after a 23 hour flight only to find that I had gone home!] But I should imagine that you would be over here for more than a week!

I look forward to meeting you.

Good afternoon!

Well, I'm back from a rather hot stuffy day up at Portobello, [there was very little breeze in the air, which would have made a big difference!]

It wasn't too bad a day, in terms of business, a collector/dealer friend of mine came to see me again after a very long absence, and henpecked up a pen which I had repaired for him, and he chose two pens which he felt fairly confident that he will be able to sell both on for a profit.

I was very pleased that a couple of other people came along to collect their repaired pens, which always seems to happen when things are rather quiet!

I only bought one vintage pen today, it is a Mont Blanc 146, [probably from the 1980's] which sadly has a broken mechanism but hopefully, my Mont Blanc 'Spares Draw' should provide me with the necessary parts to fix it!

PS. Nice to see such a good responses from you [on this thread] regarding the Chatsworth overlaid Pen. Thanks!

An embarrassing tidbit... When the silver is flat I can easily see and enjoy the design. When it's been wrapped around the pen, it generally seems to be a gorgeous abstract design.

I had to go up to Hatton Garden [in London, it's the jewellery area of the Capital] to get some sheet silver, as I am in the process of wanting to replicate a cap overlay that I made as a 'one off', a long time ago and was bought by my good friend Neal. I can remember when i first fashioned it, that it was taken from a Rene Lalique pattern for the handles, for a set of beautiful cutlery!

I had to assure Neal that I would alter the actual design of the pattern, [which I will of course do!] before I proceed with the project.

When I have done the 'piercing out', I will send the flat silver for Neal to photograph it, before curling it, and then casting the finished 'Master.'

I hope that you will approve of it Tenney!

Well, I've just got back from a rather 'warm' day up at my booth at Portobello Road, I say warm, but it was slightly less-unpleasant there in comparison with last Saturday, because there was little or no breeze blowing last week, which makes quite a difference!

The day kicked off, with a visit from a gentleman who I have known for a few years now, [who I refer to as Mr. Alabama!] and after trying a couple of vintage pens, he bought a black and pearl button filling Eversharpe pen.

After he had departed, there was a fairly constant flow of customers who came to browse, and add something for their collections.

I was offered a 'mint' and 'unused' Parker 61, capillary filler, which I wouldn't normally be interested in, but in that sort of condition, it would have been silly to miss it!

I also bought a Mont Blanc 146, with a silver cap, which needs very little doing to it, to bring it back to 'selling condition'!

To bring you up to date with the overlay for the cap, that I will be sending to Neal for photography, I suddenly had the idea to engrave both sides of it, so that dear Neal will have the final choice, as to which version he would prefer me to use! Hopefully, when he does the photography, perhaps he will post pictures of both sides on this thread! With of course a picture of his cap, which might clarify, what I have been 'waffling on' about!!!
