All Hail the Mighty, World Belting Power of the Fountain Pen Network!

It was only yesterday that I'd posted in this thread about some items that I've been waiting for.

And they have come! Well, most of them.

I got my 10 pack of Hero 616s and my pair of Jinhao 886s.

The Jinhao 886s came from China, as expected when dealing with a seller from the so-called Peoples Republic of China on E-Bay, and the small package shows all sorts of Chinese Post Office markings and stamps on it.

The 10 pack of hero 616s from an Amazon seller came from - New Jersey!

So does amazon just load up a whole lot of merchandise that it might sell and then drop ship it from local, U.S.A., locations? I suppose that such a method would cut down on shipping costs. Seems odd though. And the seller of the 10 pack was definitely listed as being from Some place named China.

I also found that the bottom of the blister pack of Hero 616s was opened, and one of the pens was loose from its cap, as if someone had taken one out, removed the cap and didn't really bother replacing the cap properly when they put the pen back in. Customs perhaps? Whose customs?

The small package, a padded envelope, with the two Jinhao 886s had been stapled back together at some point. More customs stuff, perhaps? Those fountain pens have screw caps so maybe they just looked at them and didn't bother taking the cap off.

So now I have only one purchase that's out there, the five loose nibs I bought with an, "Estimated delivery: Thu. Dec. 3 - Thu. Jan. 7" date., and then I am back on the wagon again.

But just posting about waiting for the pens on FPN got them to come here immediately! What power this place has :o !

TWSBI Vac mini, F.

I love my Diamond Mini but find the other TWSBIs too big, so I couldn't resist when this came up on my Writing Desk Christmas Newsletter ;)

I've been really good and not bought any FPs since last April (though I've been buying other stationery instead!)

Happy Christmas me.

In the mail and waiting anxiously -

1) Pelikan M1000 in green with a F nib

2) Italix Parson in black with Cursive M Stub

3) Sheaffer Valor in Blue with M nib

4) Jinhao that's a Lamy Safari clone in white

I somehow feel I may not get any before Christmas, which is almost an excuse to buy another pen so I have something to unwrap come Firday.

You name the day after your tree; is that a Canadian custom?

But seriously, nice choices. I'm familiar with all but the Valor and they represent a range of writing experiences, all of them pleasant. I hope you get at least one of them before Balsamday!

My nearest and dearest got me an rhodium Falcon EF. I sent it back for an "extra flex" modification, and two months later I found out that it never reached its destination. It was scanned in, and more than 60 days elapsed, so there's $150+ circling the drain...

There's another on the way. Should be here tomorrow, with the aforementioned modification. Maybe I should sit on my front porch with a high-powered rifle until the UPS truck gets here and I can safely take possession?

Moral of the story: spend a couple of bucks extra and get a signature from the intended recipient.

I debated for a long time, and finally bit the bullet and purchased a TWSBI Mini Classic with a 1.1 nib. I know about the cracking issues, as well as the supposed reformulations in materials with the newer versions of this pen. I know that the nib and feed are the same as my Eco's nib and feed. I also know that even though it is a piston filler, the Mini does not hold all that much more than a standard cartridge converter. In the end, the draw of a smaller pen that is comfortable for longer writing sessions, a piston filler, and reasonably priced was too much for me to pass up. I'm hoping that I do not end up another 'TWSBI Mini cracking victim' a month from now...

TWSBI Vac mini, F.

I love my Diamond Mini but find the other TWSBIs too big

Are the full-sized TWSBIs that big, then? I just ordered a Diamond 580 (because I couldn't resist the purple!), since Cult Pens is awaiting stock on the Vac Mini (and Pure Pens don't even list it).

Generally I prefer small fps such as the Kaweco Lilliput, as I have small hands, but my everyday pen at work is a Parker IM which is reasonably chunky. As long as the 580 isn't a huge fat cigar-like thing, I think I'll be OK!

- Osmiroid 65, to which is attached a Copperplate nib. Pen will be pitched into the junk drawer and that nib shall grace one of my Esties.

- Parker Vacumatic Debutante ~ manufactured in Canada with what I am hoping is a Canadian flexible F nib

I'm waiting for another vintage Sheaffer stub from Greg Minuskin.

But the real news is that I have been a Very, Very Bad Boy today. I placed an order with our friends at La Couronne du Comte for a Montblanc Heritage 1914 with an OBB nib. It should be here in time for my birthday next month. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

This Monday my black/chrome Kaewco Dia2 arrived (w. stainless BB nib). Today I received a 14K BB nib-unit from the UK. Both the pen & the gold nib arrived in record time.

Next week I'll ship this beautiful retro-styled Kaweco to Pendleton Brown, to have its gold double broad nib turned into a smooth writing stub.

And I'm waiting for another vintage Sheaffer stub (military clip Balance) from the same source!

Hope you'll have a great birthday with your 1914 OBB!

Two outstanding orders at the moment:

1. A Daedalus that is - somewhat ironically - in the air right now.

2. A sealed box of Blanzy Departmentale Cementee #2552 nibs that on the latest tracking says it has arrived in Auckland on 23rd Dec but failed delivery on the 24th (well, duh, the University was shut for the holidays guys!). Hopefully this does not mean it gets shipped back to sender. Have to wait until after 5th Jan 2016 now, alas.

Moving in a new direction for 2016. Looking to add a Lamy 2000 EF as a throw in the bag pen, and at the end of the year a Nakaya Seiryu Long cigar with an italic nib. No desire for much else, though may explore some Indian ebonites as they are wonderful value and quality (based on one sample so far, but still... )

Thanks! The military stub you ordered from Greg is a beauty, especially with the white dot below the clip. Now that I know you are lurking there, I'll have to watch his site even more carefully :D . The Balance with 0.50 stub that I really wanted was bought by someone in Australia.
