What Pen Are You Waiting For In The Mail 2015

Recommended Posts

The last time I ordered a pen from the Netherlands it spent an inordinate amount of time in customs. This time, the package sped right through, so I have a Pelikan M805 Stresemann that is out for delivery. I can't recommend La Couronne du Comte enough -- excellent customer service, quick shipping and great prices.

Also, Renee Meeks at Scriptorium just put this Baskerville in the mail for me. This pen still stuns me when I see it. I can't wait for it to arrive.

is this pen going to be a limited edition?

Because I cannot fing anyone like this style in Pelikan M805.

IIRC the Black Luster has a metal section, so should have a little more heft than your average 1911L. Let us know how you like it.

The grip section is exactly the reason why I decided for this pen. I thought about the sterling silver model, but I will need to post, and the sterling silver cap would likely unbalanced the pen. And I love the black on black of the pen. I will of course share how I feel about the pen.

Now I wait for the converter to get here tomorrow (seller didn't include a converter) and I am in business.

Also have a Platinum Plaisir that will be here tomorrow as well and a Preppy is in the mail as well.

Don't mind me, I like to ramble... A LOT

Seems the pen is at my post office... Four days from Japan to Eastern Canada, included a stay at the customs (and a 70$ taxes to pay...). Not bad... !!!

My Custom 823 arrived today. No ordinary Custom 823, this one came from Tokyo Pen Shop Quill http://www.japanshop-quill.com/ with one of Pilots specialy nibs, the WA (Waverly).

First off, I cannot recommend the merchant enough, their service was lightning fast, with prompt and excellent communication. The pen was shipped on the same day, within a few hours, after I ordered it, from Japan, and arrived here in New England, much to my delight, only 6 days later. Very pleasing indeed.

Now on to the pen. I've only had it a few hours, but after a quick inspection under a loupe (the tines were perfectly aligned, for the first time EVER in my pen buying history), and wash (standard procedure on new pens - a massive test of my patience in general, because I'm always eager to ink up and start writing), I finally dipped the nib in my Tsuki Yo bottle, dropped the plunger, and watched and felt it fill up, and it was off to writing. And doodling. And writing and doodling more.

This nib is probably the smoothest out of the box I have yet encountered. Ink flow was steady and solid, not gushing, but satisfyingly rich. The pen writes a very precise line I would rate as somewhere between a Japanese Medium-Fine to Medium, which is just what I was hoping. It's always a roll of the dice when ordering a new fountain pen, given how much nibs can vary within their size rating, even from the same manufacturer, and having one that matched my hopes and expectations this well has me absolutely delighted.

I've never used a Waverly nib before, but this one has me asking why I've used anything but. I can keep going on about how smooth it is, but let me put it this way. This is the first pen ever which I have not in the first few hours wondered, could I make it better myself, or for the expensive stuff like this, would it be worthwhile to send it to a nibmeister? It's that good. I wouldn't change a thing about it. I don't know if I'm extraordinarily picky about my pens, or I've just been unlucky, but everything else I've gotten so far with the exception of my Omas 360's has come with misaligned tines, or wrote scratchy, too dry, God knows what else, but this pen has been wonderful right out of the box.

Finally, I'll just say that the pen's size and weight are excellent - not too heavy, girthy enough to be comfortable for longer stretches (though I could maybe go for it being even a little more fat, but I have big hands, and some pain issues that only a big fat pen or weirdo shape like an Omas 360 vintae helps avert). It's a little top heavy when posted, but only slightly, keeping its balance in that state pretty good if you're into that thin. The filling system is smooth and effective too, quite similar to the Vac700 but feeling much smoother and more solid, like it's a notch up in quality, even though really it seems to be very nearly the same. I rather like the Amber color of the North American release, but I am a sucker for the good old fashioned black and gold look so went with the smoke grey variant.

It's a great pen. Definitely EDC worthy, not that I can do anything but roll my eyes every time I see someone use the term "EDC".

Congratulations! The pen is beautiful and it's great to hear your comments on the Waverly. I'm particularly excited to read your post as I've just purchased the clear Pilot 823 with the FA nib from Tokyo Pen Shop Quill too! I was curious about the Waverly but don't have a flex nib yet so went with the FA - perhaps next time I'll go back for the WA.

I agree with your comments on the merchant too. Yasukazu has been wonderful to deal with, very helpful, he explained the differences between the FA (Folcan) and the Elabo (Falcon) nibs to me and was happy to reserve the pen a week ahead of purchase. I paid yesterday and it was in the mail a few hours later.

I saw a pack of three cheap Chinese artist/calligraphy nibs for $1.62 so I also ordered a Jinhao 886 for $2.25 and I'm hoping they're compatible. If not I'm guessing I've got something in my cheapo pen box that I can use. I've never tried a shaped nib before (or even a broad or stub) so I figured for $3 and some change I'd give it a go.

I am waiting on an E. Faber pen "snakeskin" pattern pen I bought on ebay, as well as the Pelikan Amethyst (ordered from Fritz Schimpf), a burgundy Parker 45 (ebay again), and a couple of pens I sent off to Danny Fudge to fix (new sacs and the like): a Sheaffer Ebonite and Pearl pen and a Majestic pen.

Sailor 1911 large, Black luster, shipped today. I was always curious about their nib, but always thought their pen to be a bit on the light side. Birthday coming and in need of something good in my life now.

You'll dig the Sailor. I was really, really impressed with mine. Went straight to the top of my favorite pens. It's the only one I haven't rotated out since I got it earlier this summer. Probably the only pen I've used every one of the last 90 days. All the others have missed at least one day of use, and most several days over last 90. Great nib. Great flow. Great feel.

Waiting for a lime green Safari F with matching ink to arrive. Looks like tomorrow, maybe today if I'm lucky. My 9yo son will be happy. The only thing for me in the package is a new Rhodia No.18 black pad holder (and pad).

Pelikan M600 Pink Tortoise - at last!!

OoOoOoh! Please post a review when you receive it! It would be most beneficial to those of us that need a little push off the fence.

Will do. It's supposed to be here Monday!

I should correct myself: it isn't a tortoise by Pelikan color standards.
