What Pen Are You Waiting For In The Mail 2015

UPS just e-mailed me that my Pelikan P200, which apparently was originally scheduled to arrive on 4/10, has been delayed due to unexpected circumstances. The last time this happened, I think weather was the cause. This time, tracking says that a "non-UPS labor dispute has delayed delivery", and it won't estimate a new delivery date right now. However, I can see that the package is currently in Koeln, Germany. So out of curiosity, since I guess I'm not up-to-date on international news, can anyone explain in a bit more detail what's going on here? Thanks, and sorry if this is a little off the main topic, but I was kind of excited to see I'd have my new pen in a few days only to realize it's now delayed for who knows how long. :(

Air traffic controllers in France are on strike and it's a pretty big deal. See here: http://www.bbc.com/news/business-32203876

Seeing as France and Germany are neighbors this is quite likely your cause.

Strange. Köln is quite near the Dutch border and all international flightcontrol from that area is handled at Maastricht (Eurocontrol).

But perhaps the plane was scheduled to come from Paris, or to go through Paris?

Thanks for the info. The seller was in Spain, which I didn't realize originally (no big deal though), and the package first went from Spain to Germany. I'm not sure why it went in the wrong direction, unless UPS doesn't ship directly from Spain to the USA for some reason. I'm also not sure why the package would stop at Germany only to stop again in France, but who knows what UPS does sometimes. The French strikes do seem like the probable cause though, especially if they're also affecting flights over the country even if they're not stopping there. Thanks, I guess I'm just going to have to wait and hope the delay isn't too long.

Snort :)

If you think that phrase is worth a chuckle, try saying this one, "I've only limited experience with Sailors, I don't like their small size".

Less non-sequitor, I'm waiting, fingers poised over the keyboard for the release of the TWSBI Vac Mini next week. I've promised my wallet that this will be my last pen purchase until I finally get around to pruning my FP collection. A promise I'm sure I can keep.

Just ordered two Scriptorium pens.

Now I´ll just have to wait the terrible 4-5 weeks manufacturing time.

Still waiting for a Master Scrivener in Dartmoor acrylic and an Idyll in Amber tortoise/Urushi with a PB medium stub.

The waiting is driving me nuts

I have one Idyll and follow Scriptorium pens on instagram. I really look forward to seeing what yours look like, amber tortoise is a really nice material. The only thing i regret is that i did not have mine sent to PB for a nib grind, love his grinds.

you have a nice experience ahead of you with both the PB nib and a scriptorium pen. I suspect you will be updating instagram more often than you ever have before when you get an email from her saying she is ready to make your pen :) I´ll probably get to see your pen being made right along side you.

And today i finally made my order for a Nakaya...That will be my most expensive pen ever, and i´m really looking forward to it. I did not plan to get it until august, but i´ve been reading so many reviews and looking at photos that i finally cracked and order it ;)

Now Im cackling like a mad hen.....Im a sailors daughter. My grandmother was mortified when I was asked to sing a little song for the head teacher at infant school(I was five, around 1960) and sang:

"You've got a head like a mess deck scrubber, eyes like a Dogger Bank cod"

Songs I learned at my a Daddy's knee..... ;)

Thanks for the laugh, and the memory....my Dad was a sweetie. Like Baloo the bear from the Jungle Book.

No problem Alexcat, and thanks for the quote from Leonard Cohen.

Memories are probably one of the biggest reasons I didn't give up on fountain pens all through the dark decades of the 80s and 90s. The clearest memories I have of my grandmother are her ink stained hands and the smell of ink that always hung around her. Or my grandfather's sisters, all four of them cleaning their pens together and gossiping as they did it. Swapping stories and pen parts.

I think it's great to see so many young people here bringing the everyday use of fountain pens back to life again. I hope they stick with it and give their children and grandchildren some memories too.

I am waiting on a Faber-Castel E-Motion brown pear wood with fine nib for myself. Funny but the cartridge converter already arrived.

I'm also waiting for a Platinum Century 3776 Bougogne with a fine nib. It's for my wife's birthday this summer. She likes red so I hope it goes well with her red Moleskine weekly calendar. I ordered cartridges plus a converter. I think she'll prefer the convenience of changing cartridges over the aesthetics of filling the pen each week.

Cheers,

Petar K

My Pelikan P200 arrived yesterday, so that leaves three more on the way: Parker IM, Pilot Prera, and Monteverde Impressa. All three were ordered together from Amazon and shipped in the same package, which is currently scheduled to arrive on Tuesday. (The P200 was ordered at the same time as the other pens, but was sold by another party and thus shipped separately.) I'll probably have to lay off the pen purchases after that.
