Waterman Edson Question

I am wondering if your lance has broken....that portion of the assembly which penetrates the ink reservoir. Remove the cartridge and shine a torch up inside the section. How does it look up there.

That's a sensible guess. I did try looking- but can't figure it out. Perhaps there's supposed to be a gasket down in there?

I've never seen a pen leak from the inside feed; usually leaks are from the point of a pen.

Well, I'm sending it to Waterman (after corresponding with them), and hope the warranty will cover whatever is needed.

I have had internal "bleeding" from a broken feed on a l'Etalon.

And there should be a piercing lance jutting out in the centre at the point you insert the cartridge/converter. That is plastic so it could break.

Here are some pictures of the edson nib feed.

This picture shows the rear end of Edson the nib section with the compensator removed and it shows that there is a seal which is actually a moulded part of the nib section.

The "lance" part of the compensator fits through the centre of this seal.

The seal is not rubber, but is part of the plastic inner sleeve of the nib section.

The seal is tapered and therefore forms a seal with the cartridge by forcing the neck of the cartridge to expand around it.

As a result, some degree of force is required to form a tight seal between the nib section and the cartridge.

If the "lance" end of the compensator is not brocken, then you just need to apply more force when inserting the cartridge, in order to seat it properly.

I hope this helps.

Thank you very much, Nicholas!

What a fascinating view of the components.

I had the ink leak with both converter and cartridges (Waterman cartridges).

I sent the Edson to Waterman (in Wisconsin), and they've just reported back to me that there is a "worn / broken shell," and they will replace the part for $40. I wonder what the "shell" is.
In any case, in a few weeks, I see if the leak problem was solved!
