Once the cards are dry, I'll scan and upload the washed version. Did you notice that we don't have section for gray swatches?

I noticed this one looks grey when it is diluted. Check back for the washed version which will be uploaded shortly.

I'm trying to finish up a cartridge of Sailor Jentle Black at the moment so I can refill it with one of my usual colours. :) I don't care much for black, but the ink is very pleasant to use, and I was pleasantly surprised to see it had some water resistance.

How on Earth did you get Noodler's El Lawrence to appear so black? Mine is basically yellow-green. I was hoping for the blackish colour unfortunately.

It's a saturated Q-tip swab with writing done with a dipped Noodler's B nib. In an italic it is much more brown-yellow. Just add a few drops of black if you want it darker.

Well I feel silly now! I decided to give El Lawrence another go, and this time shook the bottle a lot---more than I have for any other colour. Annoying foam aside, I actually got the darker colour I wanted! You can see below how the two swabs differ (note: cheap & absorbent paper).

I'm not particularly a black ink aficionado. Ok, I'm familiar with Lamy Black in carts. It's black. It works in my red Lamy Safari with a Fine nib. As I say, it's black. So, too, with Platinum black carts and the Preppy .03 and .02. They write black.

I recall buying my first bottle of used (beg pardon, 'previously owned') Montblanc ink on fleabay. Yay! I thought; I'm significant now! I own an ink bottle shaped like a shoe!

It was black. It wrote black. And so on and so forth, until I had acquired a couple more bottles of black ink, all of which wrote...black.

But then something interesting happened. Seeing a review of PR Velvet Black, and being impressed with the brilliant corona produced by dropping it on a paper towel, I did my own paper towel chroma with four bottled blacks, and the results were not what I expected. The Levenger Raven Black was...black.

The others were a surprise, and far more colorful. Now I wonder...is the Montblanc even a black? It sure writes like one. Waterman and Quink seemed very close in color components, but in daylight, and not scannage, Quink's corona was slightly more intense orange. Still, I don't think any of them were as much of a rainbow as the PR Velvet!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

Those look cool! How do you do them? Do you wet the paper first? Use a cotton tip?

Thanks. I have used a cotton swab in an emergency! But usually, I place a drop of ink on a dry paper towel via plastic pipette, then drop on clean water with another pipette.

Let dry, then scan. :)
