Schwarz - Octopus

Recently I reviewed the full (short) line of Super 5 inks. They're something new (pigmented, waterproof, lightfast) but they're produced by well known company Rohrer & Klingner. Does it mean there's no place for new ink producers? Well...

I believe many of you will be thrilled to know there's new ink maker on the market.Octopus Concept GmbH.

The company has web shop selling printer ink and toner, It seems one of their chemists thought he'd enjoy creating fountain pen inks too.

The inks are produced in ten colors and can be purchased in Pelikan style no-nonsense 30 ml bottles , 40 ml bottles and huge 250 ml bottles. The colors are:

  1. Burgunder
  2. Flieder
  3. Karamell
  4. Karibik
  5. Konigsblau
  6. Pinie
  7. Purpur
  8. Rot
  9. Schwarz
  10. Tiefgrun

What caught my attention was good price per ml and interesting and intense shading. Besides I enjoy novelties. I just couldn't resist myself. Hopefully I'm in good, lenient companionship here. Anyway I'll review the full line. Actually I've already done it but there's no haste, is there?

Let's take a look at Schwarz - decent black for those of you who - for whatever bizarre reason - use black.

I'm beginning to dislike you visvamitra . . . ;)

Just bought a bottle:

Thank you. I have to try this out as it looks so much like one of my top inks for sketching, Kobe 46 Museum Grey :)

Well, thank you both for your doodles and splats.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

It arrived ten minutes ago.

Delighted I ordered it. This is right up my alley in terms of line and wash away colour.

Thanks again visvamita for showcasing these inks. I wouldn't have known of their existence without your dedication and selfless sharing.

Nice.... please, do post these in the Doppleganger thread... Someone somewhere is looking for a nice drawing ink... and the choices are now more affordable.. ;)

Actually the ink looks much more grey than black on my monitor.

Kind of.

It's a dark stormy steely grey. Defo not black, especially when you use black near it or to outline an edge.

Somebody was asking for an ink to replace Zhivago, seems like this would be an answer.

Thanks for the review!

I guess Octopus is not as new as it seems. The chemists passion for creating inks should not be new either, at least I hope so. Maybe you know the company Barock. It was a company with a long tradition producing inks, and it was situated in Dresden as Octopus is.

So I looked for the chemists name and - surprise - he worked for Barock before he came to Octopus. So he should know what he is doing.

It is good that the ink making tradition in Dresden not died with Barock!
