Nice, looks like m400 finishing, hopefully without the M400 price tag. In my opinion, Pelikan, besides making the best piston, also makes the best steel nibs. It makes such good steel nibs that one may seriously doubt whether it's worth paying the price premium for the modern Pelikan gold nibs.

Quite nice,

The cap resembles the M400 range other than the M200 range. Wouldn't you agree?

Pelikan have been marking their M200 special editions with a gold plated crown cap top. That can be seen on the clear and cognac demos. It does give it a higher end look.

This one is definitely going on my list, along with the Cognac which I still haven't got around to buying yet. What's with the beverage theme?

Not to disturb anyone here but I think this colour is quite bland. I remember that I had an older colleague twenty yours ago and I recall that we, the younger colleagues then (now all approaching 50), said as a joke: his favourite colour must be beige. To my eyes these pens are not "creme" but plain "beige". To each his own.

Hey, that's while there are choices. There are pens that people drool over and I'd be sitting there going "ewww, that's really kinda hideous". For example, I've looked at the Pelikan White Tortoise pens and the tortoise part just seems way too greenish for my taste -- and of course the "standard" green-black Souveran pens are just sort of boring looking, IMO. Yet my M400 Brown Tortoise is absolutely gorgeous, and I still want to be able to afford one of the black-blue 400s (and the red isn't bad either). And there's something just sort of warm and comforting looking about this new one. So it's whatever floats your boat.....

That worked out nicely, I love the greenish tint on the White Tortoise but passed on the Brown Tortoise. :) :o That left enough for both of us.

I am not enamored with this pen either. However, I think that all of the recent Pelikan releases are tasteful and serve to keep interests in Pelikans high. I should probably pick up a Cognac M200 before they disappear.

Merry Christmas/Happy Holiday,

David

This was the first image that I viewed of the new pen. Normally, this color scheme wouldn't have attracted my attention but when paired with another personal obsession (coffee!), it is much more appealing to me. :D

The ultimate coffee shop patron's coffee shop journalling pen. Whoever doesn't run coffee scented ink in this isn't trying hard enough.

m200, is that really small compared to an M800? I don't have much experience with pelikans other than an old pelikan school pen I had.

Some quick googling says it isn't a tiny pen, more of a small average size. Gold plated/coloured nibs? Around 110 bucks? If it is a steel nib, nail? smooth nail?

I really like the coffee theme. We need more coffee themed pens.

edit: 12.5 cm, according to official site here: http://www.pelikan.com/pulse/Pulsar/en_US.FWI.displayShop.204209./classic-200-caf%C3%A9-creme

I'm assuming that it is capped 12.5 cm, correct?

edit again: found answers to my size question already: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/216440-size-of-pelikan-m200/

Don: M200 and M400 are the same size. It's definitely small/average but it hits my sweet spot. The steel nibs are actually pretty springy for steel nibs! I like the Pelikan steel nibs a lot. I agree that we need more cozy, coffee-themed pens, even if it's just because I love these brown and beige tones and want to see more of them.

I'm a man with, I think, average sized hands. I find the grips on the M200s and M400s too small for lengthy writing. However, when I post the caps and grip the barrels just above the section threads, the pens are among my most comfortable to use.

Yes, I have noticed the same thing with my M400s and M600s. Once posted, the M400s (and M200s) are very nice.

@bhavini, I really like the Sailor Hocoro dip pen. It’s inexpensive, easy to clean, and if you get one with a nib that has a feed, you can get quite a few lines of writing before you have to dip again. I have a fude nib, which I use for swatching and line variation while writing.

lamarax, thank you for a well-informed response! I've been worried that FountainPenHospital in NYC would suffer...

What's a relatively cheap tool for a newbie to use to try out new inks, without inking up a pen? I've a bunch of ink samples on their way but I just want to play around with them before I decide on which ones I want to buy more of for writing. I've never used anything except a fountain pen to write with ink before.
    • Penguincollector 15 Apr 17:03
Hello @Jeffrey Sher, pen club information can be found in the Pen Clubs, Meetings, and Events sub forum. If you use Google site search you can find information specific to Israel.

It's gonna end where 1929 left us: a world war, shambles, and 'growth by rebuilding'. That's the conservative view of cycling history --and the big plan. Even if our generations perish.
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:49
Of course trade wars are much, more important than the prices of consumer products. The true intention is to weaken the dollar, so that the Chinese start selling their US held debt. But the dollar being the defacto world reserve currency, it doesn't lose value that easily. So the idea is to target trade through artificially raising prices. Problem is, inflation will skyrocket. Good luck with that.

In Europe, the only (truly) American produced brand is Esterbrook AFAIK. Tariffs will make Esterbrook products compete on the same level as some high-end European brands (let's say Aurora), while clearly the product is manufactured to compete on a much lower price level.
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:24
So let's say you want to buy a Montblanc or whatever. You pay the current tariff on top of the usual price, unless your local distributor is willing to absorb (some) of the difference
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:20
Tariffs are paid by the importer, not the exporter.
    • TheQuillDeal 10 Apr 2:44
Can anyone explain how the tariff war will affect fountain pen prices??

@Astronymus I could use cornstarch... Or i could distill it and make it very concentrated.

Cappuccino should work. Frothy milk also helps to lubricate the nib. But it has to be made by a barista.
    • Astronymus Today 16:19
YOu might need to thicken the coffee with something. I admit I have no idea with what. But I'm pretty sure it would work.

No replies required to my complaints about the Pelikan. A friend came to the rescue with some very magnification equipment - with the images thrown to a latge high res screen. Technology is a wonderful thing. Thanks to Mercian for the reply. I had been using the same paper & ink for sometime when the "singing" started. I have a theory but no proof that nibs get damaged when capping the pen. 👍
    • Mercian 22 Oct 22:28
@FineFinerFinest: sometimes nib-'singing' can be lessened - or even cured - by changing the ink that one is putting through the pen, or the paper that one is using. N.b. *sometimes*. Good luck

I'm not expecting any replies to my question about the singing Pelikan nib. It seems, from reading the background, that I am not alone. It's a nice pen. It's such a pity Pelikan can't make decent nibs. I have occasionally met users who tell me how wonderful their Pelikan nib is. I've spent enough money to know that not everyone has this experience. I've worked on nibs occasionally over forty years with great success. This one has me beaten. I won't be buying any more Pelikan pens. 👎
    • FineFinerFinest 21 Oct 4:27
I've had a Pelikan M805 for a couple of years now and cannot get the nib to write without singing. I've worked on dozens of nibs with great success. Ny suggestion about what's going wrong? 😑

I have several Parker Roller Ball & Fiber Tip refills in the original packaging. Where and how do I sell them? The couple that I've opened the ink still flowed when put to paper. Also if a pen would take the foller ball refill then it should take the fiber tip as well? Anyway it's been awhile and I'm want to take my message collection beyond the few pieces that I have... Meaning I don't have a Parker these refills will fit in 🙄

I have a Conway Stewart Trafalgar set. It was previously owned by actor Russell Crowe and includes a letter from him. Can anyone help me with assessing its value?

Hullo! I really like making ink doodles, and I'd like to share a few. Anywhere on the site I can do so? Thanks in advance!
