Pleasant Surprise In My Parts Box

I was going through all my stuff today, and trying to organize some loose ends. I picked up one of the pens I'd gotten in a lot a while back. I hadn't really looked at it before. The barrel and cap are decent, but the guts are shot and the button filler is missing. I pulled the nib and saw "Parker" on it.

 

Furthermore, it said Duofold, and barely visible on the barrel was the Parker imprint. I have an old baby Duofold with the three ring cap in my parts box! Now comes the task of finding the parts I need to restore this - clip, end cap, filler button, feed and probably the pressure bar.

Do you know what a baby Duofold blind cap looks like? I have a blind cap that is smaller than a Lady Duofold but I believe it is pre Duofold.

I also have a feed that is smaller than a Lady Duofold but both came out of a Parker Service Kit that I think predated Duofolds.

AAAnd I have an end cap and clip with a Jack Knife Safety cap that is smaller than a Lady Duofold.

Well, the threads on the end of the barrel are approx. 1/4" The OD of the barrel looks to be about 7/16". This may not be the baby pen - I'd estimate the capped length at somewhere between 4 1/4" to 4 1/2".

That looks like a 30's era streamlined pen. Mine are from the 20's or perhaps even older.

Yes, that looks like a streamlined Duofold, Jr. If so, the blind cap will be smooth, not knurled, and tapered, rather than slightly concave (in profile). And the feed will be flat and not the "Christmas tree" Lucky Curve type.

Well, thanks to some help from bsenn, Ron Zorn (great advice), and a second donor pen, I've got it put together. I really like this pen, and it's my first button fill repair. It was much simpler than I expected. So, what I have is a Parker Duofold Streamline Jr in Black/Pearl. The feed is the Christmas tree, but I have the flat feed from one of the donor pens, so I should go ahead and use that instead. Still, a really nice pen, overall.

Very nice indeed! I am keeping an eye out for a vintage pen with just that type of white & black marbling. I always though that color scheme was very eye catching. I too have found that button filler pens aren't really any more difficult than working on a simple lever fill. And, I found that out by repairing a 3 band Parker Jr Streamlined DuoFold in red and black! LOL

 

Well done on rescuing it from the parts bin into a beautiful working pen.
