John, I just looked at the pics and compared with a 2442 I have. It looks like your nib was snipped off to make it REALLY oblique. The one I have is a later (not flat) feed, and is a regular-looking stub nib with the turned over end, but I believe the earlier ones would be the same. You might ask Judd if he has a regular 2442 for the pen, unless you you're happy with it....

Nice! I think that nib might be a custom grind. It's different from the one I have.

I honestly didn't notice that. I was so surprised that I found a nice looking dollar pen with a 2442 nib and a BIN of $18.50 with free shipping, I bought before blowing up the pics to check that everything was Ok. Rookie mistake.

They have their phone number and address in their auction listing so I called but only got an answering machine. I left a message, let's hope they return my call.

Either way I would like the pen for that money but I think the nib grind should have been mentioned in the auction listing. Especially since it appears to be an extreme left handed oblique, which does this righty no good whatsoever.

Give the seller a chance. They will answer the phone. I just picked up a couple from Judd, and they were pretty nice. I'd give the nib a try before doing anything. I just got a 9550 nib in a lot that looked bad at first glance. I looked closer, and this is another one that was ground to an italic. I've been playing with it, and it's not too bad. Whoever ground my nib did a respectable job of it.

Don't be too hasty to dismiss an oblique as unusable for a righty. I think all the 2/9314s relief nibs are supposed to be lefty friendly but I love 'em all.

The 2314 I have is definitely not for a lefty.

I don't know Why they did it but the left tine definitey looks snipped. The left tipping has left the building. The right one may be mostly there.

I've wondered about Judd for awhile now.

 

He used to have all his stuff on auction. For awhile now, most if not all has been BIN.

 

I've just seen the pens, I haven't gone and looked at the rest of his "Mr. Haney's truck".[1]
