Sheaffer Targa Leaks From Nib Unit

It leaks from where the converter and feed meet and it causes a mess in the barrel. I changed the converter so I know it isn't that. Answers? Here's a picture of the feed needle thing and I can't see what's wrong.

It's no small job getting those nib units apart. Is yours a steel or gold nib? If its steel, its probably easier and cheaper to get a new one from Sheaffer repair for $35.

Don't know that you'll be able to buy one from Sheaffer service now. I won't say that you can't, but can't say that you will either. Sheaffer was sold to Cross, the deal completed Oct 31.

 

These do come apart relatively easily if you know how. The right amount of heat helps. Too much and you melt the plastic, too little and you'll crack the section. Secure the bushing when you reassemble with rosin based thread sealant to keep it from unscrewing on it's own.

 

If there is a leak at the barrel end, the most likely problem is that the piercing tube has been pushed down the plug inside the section. It happens, and can be repaired. It's also possible, though unlikely that the 0-ring inside is damaged or leaking. They can be replaced, and I have them in stock so that I can replace them when I service a section.

if the threads will not budge by hand you can use some blue tac as a means to get a better grip, or some for of rubber sheeting.

Keep in mind that force without some heat to soften the adhesive used can, and most likely will, result in a cracked section.

I spoke with Sheaffer repair on Monday, and yes, they still have Targa nibs

True, I guess I normally soak them in warm water to clear out ink before I try it without even thinking of that .
