I have 0.2 and 0.3 Preppy pens and I love them!! Of course plastic is prone to cracking but for 3 pounds....who cares. The 0.3 Platinum Preppy is the pen I am using most lately and I love the nice feedback I get from it. I enjoy writing with this 3 pound pen more than with my 600 pound MB which is my second choice pen at the moment. I am not that keen on the 0.5 Preppy but thats okay too.

In short, if you enjoy fine nibs with plenty of feedback you should definitely give this pen a try.

I've had mine for a full day now.

I impatiently ordered it from Goulet Pens USA as soon as I knew of it's existence but have now discovered they have just become available here in the UK.

 

I'm absolutely delighted!

This pen, for me, is a game changer.

I was never really happy with the old Preppys but this £2.95 pen has just blown me away.

 

I bought a Pilot Custom Heritage 912 with a PO nib last month and I have to be honest, this little 0.2mm Preppy gives it a serious run for it's money. Whilst it's in no way as refined, solid or elegant as the PO nib, the line this tiny stainless nib produces is just as fine if not a tad finer. The nib is smooth (it really is) and the feed provides ink to it perfectly. The pen is identical in size to the older siblings and the cap and body have received an updated "modern" exterior paint job. The nibs are no longer colour coded which suits my OCD when using other colours in them .

 

I have ordered two more from CultPens today and can see me retiring a few pens because of these babies.

 

I'll post some photos tomorrow when I have some daylight.

 

If you like your nibs XF get your hands on some of these incredible value 0.2 versions.

I too have the Pilot 912 PO and LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Got the Preppy 02 and hate hate hate it. It's has a wider line, it's scratchy, and so far every paper has shown feathering.

 

I have Iroshizuku Asa Gao in the Preppy and Pilot Blue in the 912, so I'll have to empty the Asa Gao and put the Pilot Blue in to be sure it isn't just the ink.

 

I'm bummed as I had high hopes for the Preppy (made it into an eyedropper even!)....

Just tried my 0.2 vs 912 for line width - no discernable difference in width or smoothness. However the 912 has a very, very subtle variation in its line

I have a Preppy 0.2 plugged into a Plaisir. It makes a great bang-around/EDC. I find the Preppy nib gives the Franklin Christoph Needlepoint a challenge. It doesn't have the solidity of the FC nib but... the price!

Well, I have some Noodler's Black, which is supposed to be a lot less prone to feathering than Asa Gao. I'll be switching the ink this weekend and re-testing.

 

I'm still hopeful that I can make this into a pleasurable lug-around pen that I don't have to baby like my more expensive faves

My Preppy didn't like Noodler's Black for some reason. I hope that's not the case with yours

I have to tell you, I have had my first Preppy 0.2 for about a month, and I am Luv Luv Luving it!

Beautiful extra fine line, smooth writer, writes every time I try, even after a few days of non use, and when I have it clipped to my Midori Passport, I don't have the angst that it has fallen off or lost. It is 5 bucks!

 

I have to go order a bunch.

It didn't stop me from buying one out of curiosity!

I have been using preppys for a few months now and all of mine continuously reverse write faultlessly for even finer lines. Interestingly the 0.5 that I have writes like a stub nib when reversed.

Running on Platinum carbon black ink even the 0.2 never dries out or causes hard starts. Pretty impressive for such a low end pen.

 

The 0.2 preppy was £2 delivered but recently the 0.2 has been harder to find and much more expensive in UK. 0.3 are still around £2-3 including post from Japan.

 

Wonder if he forthcoming Platinum Procyon will be available in 0.2 as well.

Used to be £2.79 IIRC but now the 0.3 and 0.5 are £3.75 and the 0.2 is £4.85

 

Cult pens have 3 for 2 offer, making 0.3 and 0.5 £2.50 and the 0.2 £3.23

 

The clear/crystal is £4.49 and on the above offer £2.99
