I ended up building a pen case because i couldn't find any that i liked at a reasonable price. i am still working on making my own slotted trays to go in it but other than that its pretty much done. One of the advatages of building your own is you can control all the materials used in it to help ensure that everything is archival like adding uv glass if it is going to be in a room with natural light.

apologies for the giant pixilated photo.

Where does everyone get the pen trays? Having a hard time finding them.

i got a bunch of the plastic ones off ebay, the ones i got were in pretty rough shape though but the seller was generous enough to send me a bunch of extras when i commented about the damaged ones.

Well, I ordered a Gerstner chest. You guys know Alice Gerstner, right? Wotta chest!

No no no. Taking risingsun's comment about the drawers on the 52A to heart, I ordered the 41D, which has fewer drawers but they are deeper. It's also a better width for my desk.

Plus, I got a B20 base with it, which has a single very deep drawer. Even Noodler's big eyedropper bottles will fit in it.

And both pieces together are still $100 cheaper than a 52A by itself, so, better solution for less money. What's not to like? (The fact that it's still an unholy crapload of money, that's what.)

I would've liked walnut, but only the base was available in walnut. Weird, since they're designed to go together. The cherry is lovely, regardless, and I'll be perfectly happy with it.

One of the best buys I ever made, on eBay....it's a heavy, round glass base, with 'holes' in the top; slightly domed, holds at least twelve( though I don't keep that many in rotation) I really don't know if this was its original purpose, but it is perfect as a pen holder.

The other things I like are the Kipling boxes with the wee monkeys on them....elasticated looped inside, for pens, and plenty of inner storage for ink cartridges, small bottles, various bit and bobs.

I remember these from my childhood and they are for flower arrangements in a vase.

Those are some beautiful pen chests you all have! I converted a Cain cigar box into a pen box, covered it with paper and added some leather to the exterior.:

Then, wanting a box with a drawer but not liking any of the plastic tray options from gopens, I bought one from someone here and made my own trays using a tip from an FPNer. I just finished the box. If you combine two pieces of 'Scotia' floor molding, you get a pen slot. Unfortunately the slots were too big so I added thin rods to one section--you can see them on the top layer.

I have to say, it was fun at some points to make, but very time consuming!!

Thanks....I thought t might be something like that. Really good for pens in use, and heavy enough so as not to get easily kncked over. I'd love a wooden box for storage. I need to be able to see what is in rotation...stroke side effect, memory loss....or I forget.
