What Lamy Are You Using Today?

I didn't know Lamy did not offer Dark Lilac in bottled form in Europe. It's very strange, especially since Lamy is made in Europe. Is it naive to think wider distribution = more sales?

Probably they don't sell that much bottles in Europe sofar. But they have promised to also deliver the bottles in Europe, from now on.

I've bought two bottles 4-5 months before?

BTW, I'm using a plain-gray (the one not produced anymore) Al-Star with medium nib and Lamy Blue Black ink.

I'm using my new Lamy Studio with the brushed steel finish. I really like that they produced a pen in this line that has a plastic section rather than the metal section. I might buy a purple one and then switch the sections when I want to use it. (Purple is my color.)

I always enjoy my Lamy Vista, today with a 1.1 mm nib and Organics Studio Cobalt blue ink. I'm writing on cheap paper. Usually the Cobalt is a little pale for my sensibilities. But today, it's a pleasant tactile experience.

One would also expect that it would be cheaper to ship bottles around Europe than to e.g. the USA.

Maybe LAMY ink is all actually made in China or Vietnam, or Mexico?

After buying my Safari last year (which included a box of 5 cartridges of 'Dark Lilac' ink in the packaging), I sent an email to LAMY to ask them where in Europe I could buy the Dark Lilac ink in bottles.

I pointed out that people on here had been crying out for a 'purple' Safari (and ink) for years, and that everyone here seemed to love the stuff, not just me.

Their reply to me said "we have not distributed bottles in Europe" and went on to say something along the lines of "don't worry, from next year we will be making the Limited Edition inks available in bottles in Europe".

Whilst I was relieved to see that their intention was to make their LE inks available in bottles from 2017 onwards, it didn't do anything to solve my frustration at being unable to buy Dark Lilac in a bottle :(

And by that time all the US retailers had all already sold-out all their bottles of it.

What I find really baffling is that, after all the bottles of the ink sold out REALLY quickly - much faster than the pens in Dark Lilac did - in every market, LAMY did not immediately order/create a second production run of the ink.

To me, creating a second batch of the Dark Lilac ink was an absolute no-brainer - the demand for it seemed to be very clearly there, and I do not recall any review of the ink that was anything less than totally positive.

I remain baffled.

Perhaps there are only about ten people in the world (and even fewer in Europe) who want to be able to buy the ink? Or at least certinly too few to make its production worthwhile.

Maybe I just missed the reviews from all the people who did not want to be able to buy more bottles of it?

In fact, that gives me an idea for a thread....

That would not agree with the idea of a Limited Edition....

  • 2 weeks later...

The US is the third largest country population wise, but behind one and two by a billion or more. I looked up world population leaders and was somewhat surprised by where they were and aren't.

That doesn't completely explain why the special edition bottled ink comes to the US.

Why did Kaweco only offer the dark brown Sport model in Europe?

At any rate, I hope Lamy does make larger batches of special edition inks and make them available in Europe as well.

I've been writing with my late model Lamy 27.

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t154/MYU701/pens/Lamy/27/Lamy27-32_nib-feed.jpghttp://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t154/MYU701/pens/Lamy/27/Lamy27-32_cap.jpg

I'd let the ink dry out after a few months of not using it. I unscrewed the section, slid out the nib unit, flushed it all under very warm water, dried it all off, reassembled it all... ink started flowing almost immediately. Could NOT do that with any other pen. Even a Pilot Vanishing Point has an inaccessible feed that requires a long bout of flushing to get completely clean. The Lamy 27 is such a terrific pen with ease of maintenance. Love it! :)

Today I have my all black Lamy Safari with me, filled with Noodler's Air-Corp Blue-Black. It's great for scribbling notes and correcting errors when vetting papers.
