What Lamy Are You Using Today?

Out of curiosity, are there any identifiable differences between the former Special Edition matte black Al-Star and the current production models?

I bought the matte black when is was a special edition. I haven't seen in person the post-special edition pen, but from the pictures I've seen of it, mostly at Goulet, I cannot tell any difference. But I'm not an expert and as I said, haven't seen the "new" one.

I'm working to empty my new Logo's cart so I can start to use the converter.

No differences. As far as I can tell, Al-Star pens that transition from LE to production models, remain exactly the same. The Black Purple also being a prime example.

Safari pens are an entirely different story, thou.

I didn't realize the current Al-Star Purple was the same as the former LE Black Purple. Appreciate the info on both of those. As to the Safaris:I've come to realize this already. The completist in me wants them all, but there are so many combinations that it's going to be nearly impossible to get them. Green has, what, three or four different variations (hue, end cap color)? Maddening.

To stay on topic: today I have the Coffee, Copper Orange and Blue-Green Al-Stars with me. I'm sure I'll end up using them all at some point.

My current Lamy rotation: Al-Star Coffe with my very own Coffee ink recipe, the gorgeous Safari Yellow one with my own dark purple recipe and a stub nib, a Lime loaded with J.Herbin Vert Pré and my lovely Vista fully loaded with my very own Dark Black recipe -the darkest you'll see on the non-permanent side :)

To celebrate the creation of this long awaited Lamy forum, I propose to start the typical "What pen of this brand are you using today" thread, so popular in other forums.

This is my today's choice: Lamy ABC FP + pencil set. They are no longer made.

That does it. After seeing yours, I know they're kid pens but I still want them. There a place here in jax that has some.

Finally, Emeraude de Chivor arrived at my local B&M. Loaded it into my Copper Orange Al-star 1.1.

Lamy Al-Star in grey, worth Noodler's Empire Red. Not a beautiful combination, but useful for comments and annotations, and I need to use up the ink.
