Inky T O D - Color Swatches - Orange - Please Post Your Pictures And Tell Us Your Thoughts

Levenger Blazing Sunset. The vividness doesn't quite come through in the scan, but it is a very vivid, loud, bright orange. I had some problems with crud on the nib, but it's easy to wipe off with tissue. I won't be using it in my Sheaffer Targa anymore because the crud was collecting on the inlaid nib.

I had previously sworn off Levenger inks due to their tendency to feather, but this one is pretty decent. There is some bleedthrough, but on most papers it is acceptable.

I like it.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

A special Santa in a neighboring state (thank you!!) has sent me a special orange gift: Montblanc's Elixir Parfumeur Orange-Brown.

It's a somewhat nice color, but the ink has some issues. The scent is strong —which someone might like or dislike—, and the color is light, and dries down dull. It also appears to have some feathering issues on different papers.

Here's a look (photo taken in direct sunlight):

This looks amazingly like my orange leather journal holder. No, it isn't a Montblanc one.

Thanks for posting!

Lamy Bronze, compared with some other popular oranges. It has a bit of a peach cast compared to the other inks in the comparison.

From upper left corner, clockwise: Monteverde Copper Noir, Monteverde Fire Opal, J Herbin Orange Indien, Monteverde Motivation Orange, Diamine Blood Orange, Sailor kin-mokusei, KWZ Grapefruit, Robert Oster Orange Rumble

Ummm, looks problematic. Is it really as watery and light as it appears in your photo? If so, then I'd have to pass on this.

I'm really happy right now with Monteverde Copper Noir, Monteverde Fire Opal, J Herbin Orange Indien, Krishna Caramel, Krishna Orange Halloween, and Robert Oster Orange Rumble.

Thanks for the demo —or is it a warning? ;)

Unfortunately yes. If anything I think my scanner is making the ink look more saturated than it is in real life.

This is an ink that I wish I had purchased as a 5-pack of cartridges rather than a full bottle. The bottle is not expensive but this is not a color I see myself using a lot, since (as you noted) there are better oranges around and I already have some of them.

At the risk of repetition, here are the oranges (from gold to brown to orange-red) that I have loaded currently:

pgcauk had expressed an interest in some comparison of burnt oranges, so I made a few swabs of oranges from my samples collection. I really love a number of these - particularly KWZI Monarch, Diamine Ancient Copper, 3Oysters Hwangto, and Kyo-iro Frosting of Arashiyama. I really wish Kyo-iro still made that ink, I'm not sure what happened to it since they don't really do limited editions it seems. Robert Oster Burned Orange was a new addition this week, and I am quite enamored with it. Kaweco Sunrise Orange and Noodler's Golden Aspen were surprisingly quite nice, too.

Great comparison. Kwzi orange looks like a really true orange color. Love it.

Since a lot of my images had disappeared...

Iroshizuku Fuyu-Gaki.

I remember liking this above. I had only a teeny sample vial.

And then...Yu-Yake, also Iroshizuku.

Lamy Copper Orange, Noodler's Apache Sunset. The scans look identical. Eek.

Here's my "grading pen" - I bought it new, dropped it nib-down in a UK phone box near the end of last century sometime. Two sets of repairs later (the first got it writing, the second got it writing with a decent flow!) and it's back in the mix - yay! I like slim pens and I do like this color (I think it's now identified as a Waterman Super-Master in Maroon, but corrections appreciated!).

Anyways, I had settled in on Autumn Oak as my correcting/annotating ink, but this morning the converter was empty and I could not locate my bottle - eek! I found it quite quickly, but, having run through some of the options in the meantime, I thought I'd do some sampling.

Love me my Autumn Oak (an orange that includes yellow, red and green - way to interesting to be seasonal), but today I'm writing with Antietam for a change!

fpn_1595202089__origins_c.jpg

p.s. I looked through this entire thred trying to find a proper "Burnt Orange" - not an easy task apparently! I made noe of Sazerac, KWZ Monarch (hard to find?) and Moonlight of Hagashiyama (again), which all look like lovely colors, but are they "Burnt Orange"? The Graf von Faber Castell certainly isn't!!

Oh, I might have found my answer? I was thinking of those ceramic tiles that were everywhere in the `70s. Well Robert Oster does two, although I can't find either reviewed on here. "Orange Rumble" looks close to the color I remember, but "Burned Orange" looks like the color I want! Has anyone compared the two?

Trigger finger's itchy on this one!

Trigger pulled, here's an initial impression of Bob Oster's "Burned Orange" alongside what else I have in the orange zone, which I must admit is one of my thinnest!

A scan was useless but a photo (gloomy light) is a bit better.
Featured ink in dip and pen, followed by Kaweco Sunrise, Burnt Sienna (concentrate!), Antietam, Orange Indien (which I consider a "proper" orange, but never use!) and (beloved!) Autumn Oak.
I had a very unpleasant initial impression of Kaweco Sunrise, which I only have in cartridge form so have limited options for exploration, but receiving the Oster (and seeing the gorgeous post above), made me want to compare those two a bit further:
fpn_1595946060__img_20200728_071649.jpg
That Oster guy makes a lot of ink! It would be a great public service if someone could do a side by side of all of his darker oranges:
Orange Rumble, Burned Orange, Terracotta, Tangerine, Orange Zest, Red Orange and probably more - that's a lot to choose from!
