LG took that doodle into the amazing ground.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

You've got Lucky Orange!

Yes, from Fritz-Schimpf.

It's nice but won't be a favourite. It's got that flat, plasticky look. I prefer more characterful oranges - like KWZ Monarch :-)

OMAS Orange

J.Herbin Orange Indien. Very similar to OMAS, but a bit lighter/washed out.

An odd, but fun pairing: a Tekker ink, "Chasqui" and Sailor-Kingdom Note Mandarin Duck:

A few of my orange/yellow/amber inks. Bright & cheerful colours for a dull afternoon......

Isn't that the oddest thing? Suddenly you play with an ink and it speaks to you, and it's the one you've been looking for for a long time? Crazy, right? :)

That's how it worked for me.

I wanted an orange ink solely because I use orange for one of my color-coding entries in my planner. It's all I was using it for, so I wasn't concerned about shading, sheen, or any of that. My problem was that I'm not a huge fan of orange, and only like a very narrow range of the color. Basically, I like a vivid, true orange color. Not yellow-orange, gold-orange, brown-orange, red-orange, or pink orange. I wanted in-your-face true orange. Nothing else.

So finding the right shade was going to be a challenge. Or so I thought.

In my maiden ink voyage, I browsed through several ink colors and tentatively chose Diamine Pumpkin, because most of the swatches I saw of it seemed to come closest to what I was looking for in an orange ink. I don't know what I was thinking to buy an entire 80ml bottle to see if I liked it, rather than a sample, but I took the plunge.

As soon as I inked up a pen and put it to paper, it was exactly the shade of orange I was looking for. I mean, dead on.

I've tried a few other oranges since in sample form, but none of them compare for me. Diamine Pumpkin is still "my" orange ink, and probably always will be.

I love it when life works out like that. Most amusing of all, it was one of those occasions when buying ink after a few glasses of wine worked out well. I bet that won't happen again!

^^ Aquaria - Same here. Just in terms of color, I love the deep red-orange of KWZ Graprfruit but it's not what springs to mind when I think 'orange'. Skrip orange - nice, straight orange, flat-looking when it dries. Kaweco Sunrise - <shrug>. Sailor Kin-mokusei - wow! this is orange.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

About 20 different inks from yellow-gold to orange red.

And with some of the pens I used:

Some Robert Oster Oranges. Zest is rich and bold, and Ng Special is a wonderful shade of orange, but it needs a bit of adjustment (PhotoFlo) because it tends to be dry. But all in all, I really like these inks!

[And the Japanese erasers are just for decoration...]
