Four Ink Studio Violets - as well as my scanner can capture them.

#s 223, 343, 452 and 650

223 is the strangest thing

343 is a lovely lavender blue (just looks blue here)

452 is the biggest challenge to the scanner, it's a real red violet.

650 is a deep, dark royal. Suitable for business but fun to dilute.

All of them separate out into outrageous contrasts with water, which I find challenging for the most part, but occasionally stunningly majestic.

Diamine Vivaldi and Kyo No Oto Sakura Nezumi are also playing - I did not start out with a plan!

It's funny - the Birmingham Stained Glass looks black with a hint of purple (dare I say murky?) in your drawing, but clearly is purple on the swab.  The Noodler's almost looks brown to me.

Birmingham Stained Glass

I love Lilac Wind and Violet Starling from Birmingham, and upgraded from a sample to a bottle of Waterfront Dusk, but the Frick Building Stained Glass that I had was as lurid as the Joker's pantaloons! Gave that one away pretty quickly! I know the production process has changed but I can't imagine an ink carrying the same name would intentionally vary that widely?

I have been on a violet run! All of these are currently in pens, and probably a good few more besides, but I am starting to get the feel of a palette that I really enjoy!

June 22.jpg

Cast, in order of appearance:
Taccia AoMurasaki
Birmingham Violet Starling
Taccia UmeMurasaki
Kobe #28 Suzuran Green
Kyo No Oto #9 KeshiMurasaki
Diamine Vivaldi
Sailor Ink Studio #650
Kyo Iro Soft Snows Of Ohara

The scanner does what the scanner does. If I told you that UmeMurasaki looks Brown in most lights with a pinkish wash I would find it hard to believe myself looking at this, but indeed it is the case!

I've posted an image with the full page, but here are Diamine Winter Miracle and Lamy Dark Lilac.  As you can see from the wash, these inks are close enough that you don't have to worry about the unobtanium Lamy.

Good to know, especially since I have Winter Miracle. Diamine Pansy might be a good match too?

We could try it, but my suspicion is pansy was less saturated.

Somehow I missed this before. What a joy to see all these. And that Kobe green really complements there others so well. Nourishment for the eyes.

Again, my eyes are happy. I think that Vivaldi is not the most beautiful color but it has an organic, somewhat aged look that's like what I expect and hope writing ink to appear (whatever it is - my words don't capture what my vision sees).

Check Macchiato Man's Lamy Dark Lilac comparison to other inks. Pansy is the closest but there are other contenders he doesn't compare.

I'm linking in this photo from his comparison - Lamy Dark Lilac left, Diamine Pansy right. To me, they look close but Pansy leans significantly more blue, very similar to the color of many actual purple pansy flowers.

I have gone from a seemingly fruitless hunt for a decent blue-violet to somewhat of a surfeit, with some only subtly nuanced distinctions, but Vivaldi remains unique.

To avoid the (self)criticism of "too many violets" I have moved the fenceposts! Given that I am allowed a broad and fine option for each, my 'Daily Accent' colors currently run:

Moon-Day = Blue-Violet = Soft Snow and one from AoMurasaki or Ink Studio #650. Soft Snow is uniquely pretty. Aomurasaki and #650 are adjacent, but the Ao is a touch more solemn while the #650 is both darker and richer. An either/or for me but one with only good outcomes!

UmeMurasaki I have now filed under Pinkish Brown = Mercoles alongside the wonderful Kobe #54.

Vivaldi and KeshiMurasaki, both of which I adore, I have filed under Grey, which is designated to Saturn and which really cheers me up as I used to find Saturn a rather dreary old stick!

See what I did there:

Murasaki #1 = Violet

Murasaki #2 = Pink

Murasaki #3 = Grey

No duplicates!

Summer Storm I would probably file under Saturn/Grey too - I think that's in line with Oster's classification?

@pgcauk!

Someone else using the day’s planetary colors?  I do try to use them for morning pages

(former Waldorf teacher).  Do we need an inky thread for this? I am interested in the rest of your rotation.

Back to the topic. Winter Miracle’s glitter just adds to the fun. It’s a wonderful ink on its own merits.  You can let it settle if you prefer no glitter. So saturated, and a beautiful dark purple.
