Monteverde Mercury Noir. A nice deep red with burgundy and blackish undertones.

That pushes my pink button.

Also it feels reminiscent of the scans I’ve seen of Skrip Persian Rose. I can see why people went nuts over the Penman inks from this. Very cool.

Updated sample card for Mercury Noir, and for Diamine Oxblood

Monteverde Mercury Noir - the 5s dry time smudge has some residual purple in it.

Monteverde Ruby.

A medium "true red" that dries quickly, at least writing with my very cheap Chinese Parker Vector ripoff.

They were so unique at the time.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

To ES - That Mercury Noir looks like it might be an okay match for Noodler's BSAiR.

Yeah, I’m not sure they would have suited teenage me. I haven’t the faintest clue if I could have gotten my hands on them in the days before the internet. But they probably wouldn’t have gooped up my teenage pens... if I could have figured out how to get ink from the bottle to a cartridge...

Oh well, there’s probably a universe somewhere where I’ve hoarded bottles of Penman Ruby. But this isn’t the one.

You are in the golden age of inks so if you like a color, we can find you the ink. I think Robert Oster may have one that is pretty good replacement.

Mercury Noir side-by-side with BSiAR, Tomoe River.

Some caveats: 1) the Pilot Metro has both a finer M nib than the Skyline M nib next to it, and it is a dryer writer than the Skyline. So that does affect the writing comparison somewhat.

2) Noodler's Black Swan in Australian Roses is well-known for having significant batch-to-batch variation in color. So my bottle of BSiAR may not be the same as yours.

Reds are tricky :). My favorite color group, and so many red dyes have dry time issues.

Since Im feeling redder than usual... have a quick sample of my only bottle.post-42152-0-36490000-1522341260_thumb.jpeg

I actually like the pinkish undertones more than I thought I would. After my next order, Rouge Caroubier may get into my wishlist.

The photo is shifted a tiny bit magenta. The pinky bits edge peach to my eye. In person it’s a very balanced red between pink and orange. But I also read all the other Herbin “reds” as pink so do take that into account.

It’s a good red tho, I was writing at a good clip with a 1.5mm nib and the smudges are minimal.

Happy Easter for those who celebrate it. Or... Happy April's Fools I guess?

Anyway, some random doodles. Excuse the eye-searing hue, the actual color is not so saturated, but I vowed to myself not to alter the color with Photoshop unless my scanner gets possessed by a color-altering Poltergeist.

Pen: Faber-Castell Loom <M>.

Ink: Diamine Matador.

Paper: Clairefontaine 90g/m.

I found that if I choose "photo" setting instead of "document" setting in my scanner, it'll get a less vibrant image which is closer to what I actually see.

I found that if I choose "photo" setting instead of "document" setting in my scanner, it'll get a less vibrant image which is closer to what I actually see.

Once I did that, I had a PDF file that I had to convert to jpg with an online converter and it became grainy and the color was even more off, so I only ever scan in photograph.

Most of the time the color is actually pretty accurate to what I see in indirect sunlight with no clouds and I have to hope that people will accept the fact that color perception changes greatly with different hours of the day and in different levels of sunlight or darkness.

When the color is so off that I feel uncomfortable with it though, I state it clearly on the post and hope that people will understand. If I start altering the color in Photoshop it'll take hours and a considerable amount of mental sanity for each scan.

And here is the rest of the doodles. The teeth of the left fox became vampire-like. Freud, what the hell.

OK,

My first post

I recently inked my Lamy 2K with NBB and I couldn't be happier...this is only my 3rd blue but, honestly, I can't see changing any time soon.

So why am I in the RedZone? Because, as silly as it may sound, I am looking for the RED 'equivalent' of NBB! Darned if that Diamine Matador above doesn't look like a candidate.

If I could accurately describe the qualities of the NBB I would give those as a guideline, but I can't.

Thanks in advance, and sorry if this is in the wrong thread.
