Pink ink comparison

Taki

Recommended Posts

There was a couple of threads about pink ink recently, and I thought I would contribute a comparison of my pink inks. I am sorry I couldn't make the color come out right either in scan or the photo. On my monitor the photo looks closer to the actual colors although it's a little dark. When I tried to lighten the photo it got a blue cast and I've decided to post it without correction.

The paper is Rhodia pad, and I used a dip pen for the first time in 25 years+ (now I remember why I didn't like it). Please excuse my bad handwriting sick.gif I also added Q-tip swab on the right.

First, the scan:

...and this is the photo:

I wrote in one of the pink ink threads that Diamine Pink feathers, but it looks like it was Noodler's Georgia Peach. There aren't that many color of ink that feather on Rhodia paper blink.gif

As a pharmacist, I'm sure you've seen lots of bad handwriting, Taki....but this ain't it! wink.gif

I wish my handwriting were as nice....

Thanks for the scans. I only have one pinkish ink---PR Ottoman Rose and it's a great colour. I think the colour red is a challenge to depict accurately online; I love the colour red and I find that many pens that appear a dark red on Ebay are often a lighter red in person.

Very informative.

On my monitor, the scan looks terrific, while the photo looks slightly orange. It's good that you provided both, as well as the Florida Blue reference. I don't have any of these (except Florida Blue), so this is very helpful.

Thank you!

Dennis

Lovely italic hand! You must just be fishing for compliments with your 'bad handwriting line.' wink.gif

Great ink colors too, I bought the Levenger Pinkly a month or so ago and have been writing all sorts of girly things in my Smythson pink journal. Now I just need a matching pink pen.

Thanks for taking the time to post this. Any thought on the Diamine Claret?

Thanks for kind words, everyone.

Hana-san, if you like Georgia Peach, Diamine Pink is a very similar color.

Kate, Claret is a very nice color. I think that's a color you can use for writing letters. It goes on very bright initially but darkens once it dries. I like Pinkly, too and it's great for editing and quick notes on margins. Of course it would look great in a pink pen but I saw someone filled an avocado color (like 70's appliances) Sheaffer Viewpoint with Pinkly, and I thought it was intriguing and very nice mismatch smile.gif

Which of these inks can be had in cartridges?

Pink isn't my color, but a couple of cashiers where I shop have commented enough times about my fountain pens that they deserve a gift.

The pink pens are ordered from Speerbob, but now I need pink ink!

Diamine, Herbin and Levenger are available as international cartridges.

Pilot has pink ink in cartridge only but I don't think that's available overseas.

Anyone looking for a permanent ink that's sorta magenta/rose/pink might try Noodler's Kuprin, one of the Pendemonium exclusives in the "Russian" line. It's not as chalky as some of the other bulletproof inks. Pretty nice, IMO. I'd like to compare it with Diamine Claret, but I don't have any of that ink.

Thanks for making time for the comparisons, Taki. Perfect timing with flowers starting to bloom. Diamine Pink is looking better and better. Hmmmm. I wonder which pen will go best with it. wink.gif

Levenger Pinkly is one of my favorite inks. I attempted to scan a sample but it never came out—it's so bright that trying to fix it in Photoshop wouldn't do it justice. Thanks for all the samples.

I gave my neice a pink Waterman Kultur for her 13th birthday, then sat her down and went through this review to see which pink ink she wanted for her pen.

She picked Diamine Cerise -- she thought it was the prettiest.

So...many thanks for posting this review/comparison. I was going to get her Ottoman Rose, so it's a good thing this was here for her to look at! wink.gif

I hope your niece likes Cerise. It is the ink I use most often among my pink ink, though I've been enjoying a sample of Levenger Pinkly recently. I know the photo looks orangy but I still think it is closer to the actual colors than the scan.

Taki,

of course the georgia peach remains after water splashes on it, but I wonder: which of the others will still leave behind something legible, and which are inks one needs to be careful with when handling wet things?

thanks so much for this post. I love when people compare multiple inks of a particular color, especially the less-popular inks. The comparisons are incredibly useful for intuiting what the colors REALLY are (esp thanks for including Florida Blue as a benchmark!)

Thanks for taking the time to do this comparison. I always appreciate such effort.

I have been using J. Herbin's Bouquet d'Antan in a couple of my pens with F nibs, and I keep getting results on paper that I call "rust" tone. The photo of the inks captures very well that color. I realize the photo is a bit dark, but that result is what I am getting on paper. Frankly, I like it and I will continue to use the ink.

Thanks, cowboyjack, Melnicki, and FrankB.

Melnicki, I just ran water over the paper about a minute. To my surprise Bouquet d'Antan did well. Pinkly, Ottoman Rose and Georgia Peach were also good. Cerise and Claret is very faint but readable. Rose Tendresse and Diamine Pink pretty much all washed away. When it's dry I will post a photo.

Frank, I initially bought cartridges of Bouquet d'Antan and thought it was kind of pale. However I was surprised it looks more "rusty" as you describe when I got a bottle. Glad that you agree the photo looks more like the actual color.

A belated thanks, Taki, for your scans. I've been curious about Bouqet d'Antan since last summer, and now have much more info on it, thanks to you and Hana. Yes, I can feel a dusty pink binge coming on. Oh wait, what about the recently ordered dusty burgundies and purples? And the hankering for more blue blacks? Aaargh!

That's what I'm calling J. Herbin's Poussiere de Lune (got a sample from Pear Tree Pens last fall and hated it back then, go figure -- I've Changed My Mind) and Caran d'Ache Storm (Leigh R.'s scan made me drool.gif). And I've Bouquet d'Antan, Highland's Heather, Montblanc's Bordeaux and now (gee, thanks, Maryanne Moll ph34r.gif) Mata Hari's Cordial on the dusty rose list ... my bottle of P.R. Arabian Rose is lonely. And not quite dusty enough.

Your shot, Taki, of Quinkerman's Blackberry (not sure I have the name right; got scary FPN "bad server" messages when I tried to search right now) was lovely ... isn't there a recent thread about redundancy in ink colors? Guilty! I've maxed out on the off greens, almost, on to new splurges! laugh.gif And I want a pink Decimo, too...
