Yeah, mine was tightly on there for sure. Glad I didn't have to wrench on it too hard.

I'm waiting until one of you is bored and wants to sell me yours used. That way, I know the converter isn't glued in and I know what the quality is... and I won't feel guilty when I send it off to be stubbed.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Lol, well, you won't be getting mine unless I find one with better marbling. :P

Glad to hear yours came apart! I'll definitely try the heat trick when mine is emptied. But mine looks like it has little air bubbles inside the threaded area. o_o Giving the appearance of glue (alongside the aforementioned stink). Hopefully it's just an optical illusion!

Maybe the bubbles are grease, and it's just overtightened...?

No clue about the smell, all I get from mine is "old tire smell".

TeaHive, I just got mine apart! I emptied it and looked at the innards with a loupe, and could see that it was indeed threaded at the section/converter end, so should unscrew. I heated it for just a little while--not even a minute--and I was able to unscrew the converter just like on an Ahab. It appears that it was assembled without silicone grease, which might be the reason the threads are sticking. It's not glued!

You know, I gotta say I'm not too crazy about the color of the Forbidden City version. It's more pink than red to me - like intense 80's pink. It kind of reminds me of that really unnatural color of spare ribs at a cheap Chinese restaurant.

Eww...I can visualize that pinky pork too easily. I'd find that too distracting to write with, I think. I really wanted a John Mung, but some pics showed the veining as pink rather than red, and it frightened me off.

Yeeeeah, pink pork.

...maybe I should think of the pen as a breast cancer awareness pen instead. Yes! That's it.

I've been experimenting with nib exchanges to the Acrylic Neponset. What works best is to change the nib and the feed with a standard non flex nib and feed. Using the feed that comes in the Neponset seems to create flow problems after storing the pen nib up. And it helps if there's no air pocket in the reservoir for the ink to drain down into during storage. Why change the music nib for a standard? Because I like the size of the pen and would rather have a narrower ink trace for writing than the one the music nib gives.

That's neat. I switched out the nibs on both my Konrad (now a 1.1 JoWo stub) and my Ahab (Franklin Christoph music nib) already so I'm leaving my Chinese Spare Rib with the music nib it came with. I actually smoothed that thing out nicely too. It flexes something fierce! Pretty sweet.

I really want the Emeralds on the Sun version after reading how pink Forbidden City is. I might hold off until the second or third batch of pens.

hmm... if you end up not using the nib....

I regret buying the Neoponset....... because now I need to start advertising Noodler's to people as this Neoponset might be the only Noodlers that I ever had that worked outside the box.

The converter on the other hand was pretty loose that I needed to tighten it.

The forbidden kingdom neoponset is a red and purple pen. Where did you guys get pink from?

Also it's a like regular nib that is 3 tines and not true music nib. Also I can't get the nib out....

The nib is stuck in there pretty firmly. I managed to get the nib by itself out first by gently wiggling it between pulls, then the feed came out easily. The same for my Konrad pen--the nib and feed were also firmly wedged into the section there, and I used the same process.

Can't speak for the Forbidden City acrylic, but it might have to do with an excess or lack of marbling changing the appearance of the acrylic. My Bengal Tiger looks more like a bright "safety" orange than it is depicted in store photos, because it has almost no marbling. Where it IS marbled (mostly on the cap on my pen), it looks more like the yellow-orange I fell in love with.

I want to get another Neponset.. Maybe Himalayan Ruby. I do like the John Mung pattern, but I wanted to get that on a Konrad, and I don't really want to double up on patterns. Oh, the dilemma!

Yeah, it's red and purple and pink I'd say. I got pink... from my eyes looking at the pen.

  • 2 weeks later...

....aaaand I finally picked up my Black Python; either I'm having a lucky streak, or QC at Noodler's is higher on these, because I got another perfect writer! I love the way mine looks (with one caveat)--I saw a few variations of the swirling on these, including one that had an almost-solid black body, but mine is very nicely marbled. Like a real snake, it has a white "underbelly"--which is unfortunately on the TOP of the pen (when you're writing), while the cool Rorschach-esque design is on the bottom. I'll have to rotate the nib & feed to fix that. I only hope it won't screw up the perfect flow.

Lower right-hand corner pic - crazy pen. Trippy. The top shot almost makes it look like it has black end caps. Interesting.
