Hello everyone

I've just joined FPN having been a fountain pen fan since I firsted used one at school, age 7. I use fountain pens daily as part of my job and so am keen to find out about reliable pens for everyday use as well as those special pens for special occasions.

With thanks

James

Welcome !

Reliable fountain pen ? Parker 45. I used a Parker 45 through four+ years of university notetaking.

In 1967, there was only the "squeeze" converter. I favored the visibility of the large-capacity cartridge.

Changing cartridges is very fast. Cartridges can be refilled using a syringe. Spare cartridges were

carried in a mint, candy tin.

Forty years later, there is a Parker 45 fountain pen in my pocket everyday. Alternatives might be

LAMY Safari and TWSBI Diamond 580, though both are larger and heavier than the Parker 45.

Were you thinking of very inexpensive pens for leaving on your desk at work ?

Special occasion pens ? I don't believe in them. Find a pen you like best. Use it at every opportunity.

That is special.

Welcome, James.

Greetings from the forest, about 60 miles to the south of you. It's good to have you join this ever-increasing merry band, You have certainly come to the best place. There is plenty of experience, pen-wisdom and friendship here.

I see you display the flag of my home county. Are you a native of Notts?

Warmest regards,

"Robin"

Lived in West Yorks for a couple of years, well Todmorden actually which is always frowned upon as being just in West Yorks. and visited MillGarth nick as and when required. Looong time ago

I have 1 that I leave on my desk but I work from home so its safe and then I'm out and about visiting and in meetings. Been trying to find a pen I can write for long periods with (I end up making a lot of notes from my meetings) but have so far found them too thin (Hemisphere), not able to handle the occasional accidental drop (Vector) or too heavy (the Italix pens I have).

I've tried a few modern Parkers but maybe a vintage 45 could be worth a try? Are 45's still available as NOS anywhere?

Thanks for the welcome

James

Good for you, James (or should that be Tuck?)

You certainly have my blessing for your mission.
