These are very similar, with the exception being the Cicada appears cooler (more blue).

My word, that MB DD is outstanding! Love it. The shading and muzzy green color are my cup of (green) tea. Is there any sheen to it (I know that is asking for everything).

Here is my contribution.

 

Ignore the darker writing on the Cacao du Bresil. My feed was oversaturated; in reality, these inks are very similar in darkness as well.

 

My choice is Cacao du Bresil by a nose. The Sepia might wash better but the Cacao is just slightly prettier, in my opinion, and better behaved.

And one more. These two really split the line between coffee and chocolate brown.

 

If I had to choose, it would be the Hazelnut Brown for the more complex color. It dips a very fine line, as well.

Awesome contributions Jason.. I do have R&K Sepia... so just a matter of getting a sample of Cacao to really see with my own eyes... (I do trust yours... )

 

 

Between Cafe des Iles and Hazelnut... I do vastly prefer Hazelnut.... but I find it on the expensive side.

 

I will need to get a sample, so I can compare to other browns, or just mix myself a batch of Hazelnut..

Thanks. I too love the Hazelnut brown color. The problem is that it runs from the paper if there is a glass of water in the room. I don't prize waterproofness in ink (I like to wash the line), but this one disappears almost as easily as R&K Verdigris.

Scanners are good at showcasing the differences... with naked eye, they are almost identical...

I'm the thread starter you mentioned who is looking for a good alternative to Swift. How does the Old Emeralde write? Is it wetter or similar to Swift? Thank you!

I personally did not feel the ink to be dry, but then again.. my pen is a wet/flex/stub....

 

I use my trusty vintage Staedler Noris ..

Excellent!!!. This is one I am sure it will look very different if scanned (I remember Kermesin Red to be a red with pink undertones). But a photo gives you a more accurate look of what the eyes see.

to my eye (incandescent lightning) they even more similar than photographed. kermesin red is a tad more red .

Wow, interesting! I loved Kermesin Red because it was vibrant and wet. I may look at Ottoman Rose again. I recall it being a little dry for my wet tastes.

this ottoman rose didn't feel like wet, but didn't feel like dry either. depends on the batch maybe?

If you are having problem locating one of the following inks... then look if the Doppelganger is more easily available...
