Battle Of The Inks - Doppelgänger Edition

I am Dutch, so Akkerman has a soft spot, but the similarities with Diamine are too much. I would love to do a chromo etc of Akkerman's inks, but I am not going to buy them.

Only their bottles...

They are very interesting and I like the concept!!!!

Visvamitra did chromo tests and they are posted here on FPN.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Found it, the example is also from his review.

It is a kitchen towel chromo, but I would say,

these are the same inks.

and I found your post about the Diamine and Akkerman inks. Thanks for the tip!

Akkerman has never confirmed that they are using Diamine inks. The best we can say is that it is "likely".

And I can PERSONALLY attest to the fact that -- at least for their IG ink Ijzer-Galnoten blauw-zwarz (sp?) -- that they are not *just* relabeled Diamine inks, the way the Chesterfield inks that xfountainpens used to sell were. Because Ijzer-Galnoten oxidized to almost black, whereas Diamine Registrars' (or at least the sample I had of it) oxidized to a washy blue grey (great shading, but that was about all you could say for it, IMO... :().

Here is Kaweco Ruby Red (reasonably widely available, mid-price) compared to two other dark pink-leaning reds:

Colorverse Red Shift (top end price, currently fairly limited availability), and

Caran D'Ache Sunset (from the discontinued Colors of the Earth series).

There are some slight discernable differences when viewed together, but they would be practicably indistinguishable when used separately.

Kaweco Ruby Red is very slightly lighter and is less saturated; the Caran d'ache is a drier ink; the Colorverse is the only one that sheens (small amount of gold) on this Clairefontaine 90gsm white veloute paper and is the one that is most saturated. All shade nicely using a broad nib James Finniss Serendipity dip pen. Kaweco feels closest to Colorverse when writing.

Thanks Migo.... I never liked Caran D'Ache Sunset, but it looks interesting here. I guess we all keep changing our hue predilection.. ;)

I have no luck with photographs, but Birmingham Lilac Wind is very similar to Robert Oster Purple Rock, except that it is wetter and does not appear green, either initially or in the course of time, on coated papers.

That's a really nice colour. I thought I was the only person who liked my browns to be reddish browns. :)

I’ve read in Lgsoltek’s review that it’s an intense red ink, not so much brown. That said, Colorverse Dark Energy is an awesome red-brown.

The Super 5 inks are actually made by R&K, as it's written on the bottle.

Just as I suspected, R&K might have just rebottled the Super 5 inks, added a couple of new colours and renamed them with girls' names.
